View Full Version : I now have 2 phantom drives!

This might sound like a great thing. But its not really that great. Ok here's the situation. I have 5 hard drives in my PC, 2 250 gb drives, 1 120 gb drive & 1 8 gb drive for my boot drive. I have the 2 250 gb drives divided up into 2 120 partitions on each drive. The problem I'm having is there are these 2 "phantom" drives that are mimicing (sp?) my other drives for no apparent reason. I never installed them, they just showed up one day happy as you please. Cannot store anything on them since they are really not there. They show up in My Computer and in The adminstration tools under logical drives. I cannot see them anywhere else on the PC. I use Win2K right now on my machine and I've formatted and reloaded about 3 times and every time they seem to come back. I've tried getting rid of them with partition magic with no headway at all. I cannot seem to delete these two "phantom" drives and have no idea why they came up in the first place. Is there anything I can do short of formatting those two 250 gb drives, (because I'm inclined to think that its the partitions in those drives that are doing this in some manner). I have lots of stuff I haven't been able to back up off those drives and was wondering if there's another fix without doing all that. Also I have checked my jumper settings 2 times on those drives as well. Any help would be great! :D

Have you tried formatting these "phantom drives"? they might be unallocated space. Also have you got something like Partition Magic?
