Online Browser Testing

Hi,

is it possible to test a page for different browsers online rather than having to install all current and previous versions of each browser on the PC.

If not where can I find direct downloads to previous versions of IE, NS, Opera (which other browsers are important for testing?)?

Also would having multiple versions of the same browser on one PC create conflict?

I know of one site that does this for you and provides screenshots of what users will see, but I can't remember it. Sitemonitor.com or something.

They're the only two browsers I can be bothered to look for as I'm almost falling asleep.

All I know is that you can only have one version of each browser on the same partition of your hard drive. I've got NS4.79 (or whatever it is) and the latest mozilla browser (I think it's meant to be classed an NS6/7).

I believe you can have as many versions of Netscape on a single drive as you like. I have NS4.08, NS 4.7, NS 6.0 and NS 6.2 all on one unpartitioned drive. I also have Opera 6.02, IE 4 and IE 5.5 on that drive.

If you do a ‘typical’ install of IE it will not allow you to have more than one version – it will overwrite a previous version. However, I was able to have IE 4 and IE 5.5 on the same unpartioned drive because when I upgraded from version 4 to 5.5 I did a custom install and made sure to select ‘Compatibility Mode’ in the ‘Advanced Options’ box. This is a little known feature that leaves a striped down version of the your previous IE. The same option may not be available when upgrading to IE 6 – not sure.

Just remembered: Browserola used to be available (trial version/shareware). However, for whatever reason, it seems to be unavailable now. Browserola is a utility for testing how your pages will appear in a number of different browsers/versions. It used to be available at http://www.codo.com . The shareware version can be used 25 times, after which it must be registered for $49.00.

I downloaded Browserola some time ago and still have a copy of the the installation file. If you provide me with your email address, I will email it to you if you agree not to use it more than 25 times (you'll have to agree with the user agreement to complete installation as well. If you're interested in this option, let me know your email address and I will mail you the installation file (Zipped, so you'll have to have an unzipping utility such as WinZip) ;) .

Dreamweaver has a feature that does that. It checks your HTML, VBScript, and JScript.

It can check 3 or 4 versions back of IE and NS. No Opera tho. But that was as of DW4. DW MX is out now, so it might have it now.
