Hi Everyone,

I have a general question concerning enabling javascript in Internet Explorer (version 6), my appologies if I am not posting in the most appropriate place! :)

I have followed several instructions provided on the internet for enabling javascript in IE, most are generally along these lines:

1). Left click on the Tools menu (top of screen).
2). Left click on Internet Options (last menu item presented).
3). Left click on the Security tab (top of Internet Options - Dialog Box).
4). Left click on the Custom Level button (bottom of Internet Options - Dialog Box).
5). Scroll down to Scripting options.
6). Look within the Scripting options for the Active Scripting option (directly beneath the Scripting Option).
7). Left click on the circle titled Enable.
8). Left click on OK (bottom of Security Settings - Dialog Box).
9). Left click on Yes (when Warning - Dialog Box - is presented).
10). Left click on OK (bottom of Internet Options - Dialog Box).
11). Exit Internet Explorer.
12). Restart Internet Explorer.

The thing is I have followed the instructions above, and similarly written instructions.....with no change in behaviour of the browser.

Basically if I turn scripting on or off I get the same thing, javascript works fine. Is this unusual?

The exact version information of my browser is as follows:

Version: 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp1.020828-1920
Product ID: 55274-645-2775716-23300

Also I have actually rebooted my machine between IE option changes, still no effect!!!

Can somebody please explain to me what is going on?

Thanks heaps for your assistance.

Regards

David

it depends on if you chose to change settings for Internet or for Local intranet zones. They are independent. Probably you disabled the Avctive Script for Internet but you tried to check using a local file.

Dear KOR,

Thanks for your kind assistance on this dilemma that I am facing. After reading you post I successfully adjusted the 'Local Intranet' security settings, and definitely disabled "Active Scripting" on the local intranet. To take your suggestion one step further I simply disabled "Active Scripting" across all sections of the Internet Options - Security Settings.

I am still facing exactly the same situation though, that is my javascript pages work fine regardless of the settings under Internet Options. This is true for both pages that I have written (and that I am subsequently accessing on my local intranet) and pages that I am viewing from the internet at large.

Specifically I have tested the browser on a car manufacturers site, Jaguar's site to be specific.

The url is: http://www.jaguar.com/global/default.htm

I know that this site is using JavaScript as I have inspected their page code using Firefox.

However I am still getting the same thing regardless of my settings, Jaguar's site works fine.

Perhaps my browser is malfunctioning!

Do you know of where I could download the latest IE version from, it seems like I may need to reinstall.

Any further suggestions or assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Kind Regards

David
