One of my hobbies is HomeAutomation. Just recently I installed a RFID system into my house and now I want to create some cool interactive features for my touchscreen.
What I want to make is a 3D drawing of my house and be able to pan, tilt, and zoom in on areas of the house. Inside the rooms would be things like lightbulbs, Thermostats, windows and doors and RFID readers.
I already have a webpage that allows me to control all of my lights and monitor the status of my house but now i want to take it a step further by adding a 3d view.
I have guys here at work who would probably be willing to do the 3D drawings for me. The questions i have are:
1) What format would i need the drawings to be in? I know we have the ability to do AutoCad and a few others but im not so sure what the others are.
2) How can I use my server side data to control cetain aspects of the 3D drawing? In other words when a light is on I would like a lightbulb to turn yellow and when its off to turn grey. Also based on the signal strength of my RFID tags to their readers I would like to run some calcuations and pinpoint my current location in the house.
Also I was thinking about using ActiveX so that i could stream the data and have a realtime display. Am I in way over my head on this one?
