I went to go see this movie today -- I was in the mood for some light entertainment. Some reviewers say it's great, others say it stinks.

I thought it was a good film, worth my six bucks. I dare say it's probably the only movie Ebert & Roeper would consider giving "two thumbs out"...

My local TV station reviewed and gave this movie a very disappointing rating. Said good cast, good special effects and individual scenes, but the plot basically went nowhere. It's doing so so on the Rottentomato meter: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/hitchhikers_guide_to_the_galaxy/

I saw it on Sunday night. I found it very very surreal and hugely amusing... I guess the ridiculous humour appeals to me, while others I know hate that kinda humour, heh heh! I have not read the books myself, but I went with a friend who had, and who said that the film kind of just glossed over alot of the stuff in the book. However, as someone with no previous experiance of and therefore expectations of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, I did find it very amusing and overall pretty good.

And thanks to Cadbury's and a rather lucky chocolate wrapper, the tickets were free! :) Makes the film even better...

It's been kinda hyped for ages now. Especially in the Mac crowd, since Apple used their teaser to showcase their new video codec.

I saw this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I never read the book or saw the TV series so it was all new to me. I'll probably watch it again tonight. They say if you have read the book you may be dissapointed. I'll have to pick up the book and see if the converse is also true. :p

There is no way you can be disappointed by the book - at least not the first four parts.

I read a few of the books in the early 80s. If the move is as good as the books should be very good. Going to go see it.

*sigh* Obviously that pun I put in my original post went right past you guys. It was infinitely improbable in its impunity.

Well, at first I thought "two thumbs out" was a wierd British way of saying "two thumbs up". Then I remembered that you're within 50 miles of me (not in GB), and it suddenly dawned on me that it was a play on words.

Clever, you silly british-person. :D

As a film, i enjoyed it - compared to the book i was disappointed. (much like LOTR)

I was a little annoyed about them completely changing the plot - but i guess that cant be helped. What annoyed me most is how Disney seem to have removed pretty much all of the dark humour that littered the literary versions. Add in some slapstick shovels for no apparent reason and you get what is very much a dumbed down version.

Having said that i'd probably lie to see a sequel - if only to discover how they butcher the plot again :)

There were parts of the movie that I loved, and parts that I hated...it helped me come up with a new science fair project for my senior year of highschool that I am now currently researching. :)
