We were going to do the site for this company. For some reason, half way through the job we were told the real estate agent was to do the job. No drama, as we get paid the full amount anyway.

Check it out here (http://www.unionquay.co.nz/)

I just feel sorry for the customer. Or have I got sour grapes.

Feed back please.

I would realy like to know what it looks like on IE6 and NS(whatever the latest is) please.

Many thanks

it actually doesn't look too bad, i don't think. kinda sucks to have someone step in on your turf, though.

Well over all it doesn't look too terrible. First bad thing though is the 4 minute wait to download the flash animation on the frontpage though. It has no useful purpose other than to look pretty so 4 minutes in kind of a long time to wait on a dial up connection. If you someone is going to use flash it either should server some useful purpose or just accentuate something and if so then shouldn't be so large one has to wait for it to download that long.

Its hard to say that I feel bad for the customer considering there is no real way of seeing what you would have done and compared the two. I found the "Langueage Pack Installation" popup very annoying! NO I dont want to install your font!

There's a flash animation? I don't know, I waited for about 45 seconds for the page to load, and nothing happened, and i closed it, and this is with a T3 connection, so you can imagine.

I don't like it.

Don't like the font download popup, I ain't gonna waste 34mins installing a font for just one site.

The flash animation thing is completely pointless.

Horrible TNR font on the drop downs

I thought that the site overall wasn't bad except for the amout of
download time. I dont see anything wrong with the flash its just a bit to much flash. And as far as downloading new text once again this is just an added hastle for the user!

Thanxs everyone.

couple of replys to your points.

Joh6nn I agree that the design is not that bad.... have you looked at the source code though...
No meta tags, </td> not positioned correctly, annoying popups etc.

On the home page I get the "download flash 6" I click no, then the menu disapears.

In Mozilla and NS, the links for the floor plans don't work?????

Thank you for adding some balance t the discussion though:thumbsup:

Misc

The flash is the menu. Not sure why they did not use .js or dhtml??

Webmarkart Not so much the quality of design, at the end of the day, it is the customer that decides if he likes one design over another, what I am disapointed about is that we go through great pains to try and make our sites as accessable as we can. ... we cross browser test, avoid propriety tags as much as possible, avoid bloated code, avoid Flash (not that there is anything wrong with Flash - its just that not everyone has a Flash player, and the market we aim at would have a very high percentage of people who would not download a player).

I beleive developers have a responsibility to create a site that is accessable as possible to as many people as possible. (This is for sites we get PAID for)

I thank everyone for their feed back (more welcome) I can now go back to the client with your comments (tomorrow) and see if I can either get the real estate agency to fix the site, or get him to run with us. - Remmember - I get paid either way - I am just so embarrised over this "commercial" effort.

Funny thing is, when i view the main page in a less-than-maximized window i get navigation buttons; when i maximize it: buttons gone! Great trick, but not very convenient...
Rest looks okay, though not great, and it does take forever to download. Oh well.

I liked it. includeing the flash movie on the front site (and I'm not really a flash fan)
but the language pop up was annoying

LMAO:o

Thanks everyone for the feed back.

I have compiled your coments and sent them onto the Marketing Company we contract to. I included a link to here for the customer in case they wish to get the information "from the horses mouth" (So to speak).
