Sony Patents "real" Matrix (http://australianit.news.com.au/articles/0,7204,12780579%5E15321%5E%5Enbv%5E15306,00.html)

Quote from Article

In Sony's patent, the technique would be entirely non-invasive - it would not use brain implants or other surgery to manipulate the brain.

Nice thought i guess, but as long as there's no big spike going into the back of my head!

Why deny an interview with New Scientist magazine though? - Surely it'd be a good interview right?

What seems ridiculous in the article is not the sci-fi technology they are talking about but this line:

The patent - based only on a theory, not on any invention

Why is it possible to get a patent on a theory? I find that very wrong. Now anyone that does the real work, not just thinking up a crazy idea that I'm sure millions of people have had, and actually manages to invent this will be sued by Sony.

You cannot bend spoon, until you accept the truth.
What truth?
There is no spoon, then you realise it is not the spoon that bends, but rather yourself.

(Yes, I can quote the Matrix off by heart :D)

This is definitely going to be a controversial patent in the future.

Of course, that's only if Sony ever manages to implement the theory it has patented.

I reckon there could be a lot of fun watching all the controversy though :). I somehow think that if they ever get to testing the theory that there will be plenty of "willing" guinea pigs
