really? what antivirus are you using? I just think its a corrupt image, well at least according to photoshop it is. I'm using NIS2005 (waits for weazel to say something about Norton).

lol..I'm using AVG atm, but I got a copy of NOD32 which Im gonna install very soon:D
Im pretty sure NAV would detect it as a "generic trojan horse or exploit" > something like that anyhoo:p

As it does on mine using McAfee. Says it is the Exploit-JPG.Crash trojan.

Roger that! - Using McAfee here at work too and it also picks up a virus!
WTF?

LOL - Overzealous virus protection...like them detecting added crap to make them look even better:rolleyes:
liorean

Not at all overzealous. All the recent graphics exploits - BMP, PNG, GIF and JPEG in three different browsers - can possibly be used for overwriting memory that is being used by the program and might inject its own code into the program runnable code, or in the best case it can be used to crash the program. It's a potential virus, and if your viri scanner doesn't find it, I'd say that viri scanner needs to be updated or changed to a better one.

I'd best try with a VM. Don't want to think of what would happen if this server reboots.
Why are you working on your servers...
tboss132
06-17-2005, 11:28 AM
Well, won't exactly call this a server... but it's running some services which are used by several users on the network.
If you are on a network, then the computer shouldn't be doing that and you shouldn't be on it - not if it were a workgroup machine... and definitely not if you are working on a domain controller/file server. You should be connected to it via a vnc so you don't do anything to mess it up.
I am seriously confused... and don't understand the logic behind the situation that I am thinking you are in

Hey evo, no need to be confused. I do some consulting work for an Internet cafe. I configured the system as a file and print server so their primary server could be free of tasks and just deliver web pages. Whenever i'm on their site, I use the file and print server to do whatever I need to do. Now it wouldn't be fair to reboot that machine, would it? At least not during working hours.

If you check out the properties of the image in FireFox you'll see this for alt text
The image “http://sylvana.net/test/AP4.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
I'm guessing all the other programs crashing has something to do with that. MSPaint is nice and simple and probably doesn't look at where ever it is trying to get that alternate text.

.
I've had a lot of experience like what you've said. I can't consider why.
So, weazel, can you explain me about this technically?

Yeah thanx for that Weaz, Sjeesh, finally managed to get to bed on a decent hour, when I looked at your picture, oh well guess I should have read the posts below that, which I did after viewing the picture.
Unplugged the fricking internet, and spent the next two hours or so sifting through everything  The fact that the cable tv went out at around the same time, didn't help much. WTF, Naaah couldn't be, could it?, worked fine in the morning again.
It keeps you on your toes... So anyway Weaz planning any outside activities lately... :D mumbles something about large waterbaloon catapult

That picture (http://sylvana.net/test/AP4.jpg) now displays properly in IE ad doesn't crash it now seeing as Microsoft have FINALLY released a patch for IE on August 9th which fixes the vulnrebility that that malformed JPEG exploits. I know MS have to follow up every line of enquiry and investigate the vulnrebility, but hasn't the patch just been a *little* bit slow?

Ok, let's see what comes out first... IE7 or the YWDA website. As the saying goes, "put up or shut up."
:D

Yeah I suppose ;)
You are still the only person who has financially contributed towards the YWDA - by buying us the domain :D
