Apostrophes

Anyone know what to do if their search engine for PHP is not recognising search terms with apostrophes?

chances are that apostrophes have either been stripped out or escaped in the DB... so guessing as I never really thought about it before.. try str_replacing ' with \' (or remove them) from your search terms ??
