map zoom in/out, locator map???

I would like to know how to do the exact same thing with my own pictures as the map pictures here (http://mapmachine.nationalgeographic.com/mapmachine/viewandcustomize.html?task=getMap&themeId=p55)

Zoom in/out, locator map, drag area to be highlighted, the works...

Thanks for any help with possible codes or tutorials.
