tinyurl.com

does anyone know how tinyurl.com works?? i'm just asking out of curiousity.

im guessing you give them the link, then they make a directory that when visited redirects to your site.

so when i submit my link it adds it to a database and then when the person enters the address (http://tinyurl.com/whatever) it checks if its in the database and then gets my link and pulls the site out??

bingo! at least thats what my understanding is but it only makes sense.
