Hi people... Umm, I am pretty much really bad at this stuff, but does anyone know how to make images where the background is clear? Example: go to my joke site http://clik.to/danceparty you see the people jumping around but the white gets in the way of the background.... Please lmk if you need a special program or something for this (if you understand!!). Thank you soooo much.

I know how to do this using Photoshop...

create an image with a transparent background. (so you see the checkerboard background - File/New and select transparent at the bottom)

have whatever imagery you want on a layer above that and then select File/Save for Web.

select Gif in the upper left drop down under the settings panel. check the transparency box below.

Click ok.

Whatever areas were not filled by your upper layers will be transparent.

if you have ms office or even part of it, you probably have miscrosoft photo editor - search your hard disk for photoed.exe.

you can use any image program to make the background bits all the same colour, a colour you don't use in the image itself eg lime green or luminous pink. paste into photo editor and use the set transparent button (looks like a pencil). this changes all areas of the colour you click on to transparent. frontpage and other office ms programs has this feature built in.

nb: jpeg's can't have transparency. use gif's for low-colour images with transparency, and png's for high-colour ones. i think there are some compatibility issues with png files - don't know exactly what though.
