So, if you were to decide to focus on just one server side language, which would you pick to enhance your job prospects? I have used a variety in previous jobs and would like to focus on just one and develop my skills more.

Erm for server side development, then it has to be PHP and MySQL

just because you dont like it, it doesnt mean its bad

i think generally most people (who dont just hate microsoft because its microsoft) agree that asp.net with c# is probably the way forward

jsp is apparently quite good but the only big site ive seen using it is sun.com anyway

well, I've never really tried programming in them much, and can't get the real *jist* of coding them. I've been trying to code php for a while now, so I'll stick with that.

Are you seriously saying that the only major deployment of J2EE is Sun's website? I think you might want to do some research, that's like me claiming that .net hasn't been used anywhere large except microsoft.com.

It's competition (which is better than either MS or Sun owning the market), and Java is a continuously developing language. How can you claim that .net is the way forward when you think J2EE is only used on small sites and Sun's website?

PHP is not competition for J2EE or .net, it's competition for old asp which it beat senseless IMO. It's a different language with a different framework (a C++ CGI running scripts rather than compiled applications running in a container) and a different design.

 I heard JSP was designed for large coperate sites over smaller websites. having said that, I have actually never seen a small personal site use JSP as their main scripting technology.

I dunno, I might get into it one day - not sure yet tho;)

Jamie.
