I have been trying to find a program to remind me to do things like pay bills or when someone's birthday is coming up, etc. It doesn't have to be something extravagant just something where I can type in like "Pay the Rent" and on that day pop up an alert box or something to grab my attention. Preferrably a freeware program. Anyone know of any?
Thanks

It's probably a bit gratutious, but you could use Cron to run an application which would pop up a window or a file or whatever you wanted it to. It can be run off non-unix platforms as well.
I'm sure someone will suggest something better shortly...

If you go over to Cnet's download.com and type in reminder in the search box and then select downloads for the area to search in you should be able to find something there. Once displayed you can select free software only to pare down your selections.

jtr that is right along the lines of what I am looking for. Thanks I've downloaded it and will try it out. I don't see an option for recurring monthly reminders though. :( As far as simplicity and such it is just what im looking for. :)

I have Office 2000 and it doesn't have a program just for that. Are you referring to the Calendar feature of Microsoft Outlook? I know that has a feature like that.
I want something that runs in the background like the one that was posted earlier. That one is perfect except it doesn't have a recurring events feature which I think would be best as most of these reminders will occur same time each month.

Use this free software Memo Reminder... www.memo-reminder.com
It is an Online/Offline free reminder program ... If you use Memo-Online connection you can receive your messages at any location that has Internet and Memo Reminder installed (ex.:home & work) or if you use Memo-Offline connection (no Internet needed) you will receive your messages only on your local PC. Besides the main reminder program, you get “Notes” (for fast small notes), “TV Show” (never miss your favourite show), “Autodidact” (General Culture Questions who appear from time to time or you have the possibility to create your own questions)

I would delete + ban, but I think Spookster would like to take that honour...
