My mother board aint working!

Why is it the I get all the defective hardware? :(

Back on topic:
Some guy was selling a mother board, he said it has never been used, I buy it from him; I stuck some RAM and a proccesor in there, and press the power button, it turns on, but nothing shows up on the screen.

The CPU's & graphics card's fan turn on, and all the power light's light up; every thing has power.
Here are few more things:
The HDD isnt spinning.
Floppy is constantly being read.


I have tried every thing I could think of; and am starting to think there is no BIOS.
And if there isnt a BIOS, how could I put one on?

Have you changed the RAM and PSU? - what spec is the motherboard, cpu and RAM - i.e. make/model...

If the hard disk isnt spinning, then it could be 'cause of the IDE cable connecting it to the motherboard.

I suggest:
1) That you change the IDE cables connecting the Floppy Drive and Hard disk to the motherboard
2)That you check the Graphics card and RAM, i.e. in another machine to make sure it works.
3) Make sure the RAM is compatiable witht the motherboard
4) That you tell me the make and model of the motherboard so I can look at any imcompatibilities it may have:p

btw, I know how you feel:( - I got a dodgy motherboard at home here sitting in a box. It cost me £70.00 off ebay with a 1.1GHZ athlon and 1GB ram - bloody thing wont boot:mad:

I think I found the problem:
My CPU may be too fast.
The mother board supports only a 400 Mhz front side bus.
My CPU requiers a 533 Mhz front side bus to function properly.


So my mother board probably isn't defective :)
Oh well, even if it is defective; I only paid $10 for it, so not much would have been wasted.


Btw, is £70.00 a lot?

eh? what Processor did you buy? - a 533mhz FSB must be quite new, 'cos a lot of the 2.6ghz and down P4's have a 400mhz fsb:p

anyhow, £70 amounts to $133.00 :mad: and it still doesnt work :(

wooh - a mobo for a 2.4ghz P4 for ten dollars is pretty cheap;) - I would make sure that you find a processor that has a 400mhz FSB (stating the obvious:p) -also, how much RAM are you putting in there?

It'd be better to find a board the use the Northwood chip than using an processor with a slower bus speed. Remember you'll want to use PC2700 DDR with that 533Mhz FSB chip.

The 533Mhz FSB chips are actually pretty old, a few years. The 800Mhz FSB ones are the "new" ones but they have even been around for a while.

Work with my CPU?
Cuase some guy was saying in the reveiws that the mother board doesnt work with CPU's with over 512 K cache.
And my CPU has 1 meg.

Hopefully he/she doesnt know what they're talking about
