Hey guys I have a few questions about Paint Shop Pro

1. Is it like Photoshop where you can make pictures like banners and headers and stuff and not just edit pictures you took with your camera?

2. If yes to #1, which is the best, Paint Shop Pro Studio, Paint Shop Pro 9, Paint Shop Pro 8, etc.?

Thanks,
Scootertaj

I have no idea which is best... but I will say that back in my PC days I used PSP and loved it. It doesn't do as much as Photoshop, but it did everything I needed it to, and it costs something like $700 less. PSP rocks.

I love psp. you can make almost anything in psp. there are things that psp can do that ps cant, and vica versa. so it reall depends on what you want to do. retail version of psp8 comes with animation shop 3. so its an added bonus. you can make animations, and just about any type of pic you can dream of. i like the fact that you can set transperancy level of a layer real esy in psp.

in ps, you can inlay images into the text, which is a nice feature. not sure how to do that in psp yet. psp has a lot more tool wise in my opinion, i dont feel so limited in certain with it, but it lacks the use of the magical wand when you want to cut a piece of the image out.

i have made banners and logos in both. i have made my animations in psp.

hope you find which one you prefer more. i use both.

Same here  . It's also a lot easier to get the hang of than PS - far more limited though, as well as the fact that PSDs are "the" image format for editing etc.

Ok well it sounds like I'm definetly going for PSP then, I had already put PS out of the way because of the price.

Anyone have any ideas on which one is the best?

Thanks,

Photoshop is more for professional level graphics and image editing. With PSP, you can create professional graphics but some features are highly limited in PSP compared to PS.

I have made professional level graphics in psp.. at that time i think it was psp6.. i did everything from image maps to navigation menu graphics.

it just depends on how much experience you have messing with psp. i have made more graphics in psp7-9 ( psp6 was when i was first starting out). and i still have many ppl asking me to make them graphics in psp. and they are being used on their own websites.
if you put a lot of work into using psp, your graphics will look professional.

I only do simple things in PSP, with more professional looking things in PS. True, it is down to experience, but PS is aimed at the Professional markets where as PSP is aimed at the Home-Semi Professional market.

Would Paint Shop Pro 7 be a good one to start on or 8 or 9 or what?

9 is the newest. They all have similar UI's etc so v9.0 would be good to learn on. However, it depends how much they are. The newest one I think would cost more than versions 7 or 8..You could probably get it on ebay anyhow.
