im so jealousmcq 02-15-2005, 08:32 PM all u americans get all the cool stuff first! eg gran turismo 4 nintendo ds psp!!!   why? thanks shmoove 02-15-2005, 08:46 PM The japanese got the PSP and Nintendo DS before the americans. shmoove JamieR 02-15-2005, 08:50 PM it depends where they are made and where the manufacturers are. A lot of Electronics are made in Asia, so Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan etc simply because the people are cheaper to employ (tight companies  ) However, some electronics is made in USA and then UK etc...It depends where the people are who want to test them etc I think. shmoove 02-16-2005, 08:03 AM Europe gets the short end of the stick as far as games for three big reasons: PAL, the many different languages spoken in the territory and the fact that it's game development industry is the smallest. Oh, and europeans usually have more patience (the OP doesn't seem to). shmoove Mhtml 02-16-2005, 10:08 AM Australian's get it worse! We get everything a billion years after USA and UK, and it's more expensive! _Aerospace_Eng_ 02-16-2005, 10:25 AM lol mhtml do u know what ranch dressing is? i went to australia in summer of 2004 and asked if they had any they said "no, i don't believe i know what that is. You have to remember that we are 20 years behind the rest of the world." I guess it is true.. Mhtml 02-16-2005, 10:36 AM Lol! Well, I have heard of it.. I know it exists, I don't believe I've ever tasted it though. _Aerospace_Eng_ 02-16-2005, 10:37 AM okay so what do u put on top of your salads then? ranch dressing is the ideal topping for salads in the US Mhtml 02-16-2005, 10:38 AM Err...we have beer?! Horus Kol 02-16-2005, 10:39 AM I beg to differ on the games thing - console games in the UK are released later than over the water, but a large chunk of PC games are available before (and most at the same time). Last time I checked, there are 30 or so PC game software houses in the UK - which is a huge portion of the global industry. shmoove 02-16-2005, 10:52 AM Err...we have beer?! You pour your beer on salads?!? What a waste! @Horus Kol: Yeah, I was thinking mostly about consoles. shmoove Mhtml 02-16-2005, 11:02 AM lol, no we don't.. Well maybe some people I dunno, I prefer to drink it myself (but that's just mainly because it's cheaper than anything else at the pub lol). cfc 02-16-2005, 03:28 PM Australian's get it worse! We get everything a billion years after USA and UK, and it's more expensive! + the GTA series is banned there, isn't it? I remember reading a while ago in XBN that MS was clamping down on a lot of European development studios as they were taking forever to develop (some highly anticipated) games and constantly requesting more money without any serious indication that previous money was being used productively. Galleon is a prime example of this as it released about 4 years after the Xbox and looked like a game that would have barely passed for acceptable when the Xbox came out. Fable, on the other hand, took 4 years to develop and was artistically (not so much technically) brilliant. Now let's hope Lionhead releases BC before Xbox 2 comes out and Oblivion (currently only set to see the PC, but the Xbox was where they sold the most copies of Morrowind) is potentially released for it, along with no doubt a ton of other graphics showcases. As someone that plays a lot of games I'm glad I live in North America :D Is ranch dressing even twenty years old? Mhtml 02-16-2005, 03:47 PM The GTA series isn't banned here. cfc 02-16-2005, 03:49 PM Might have been NZ then? or maybe I'm going crazy... chilipie 02-16-2005, 03:51 PM Probably the latter :D . Mhtml 02-16-2005, 03:51 PM Nah I'm pretty sure that NZ hasn't banned it either. shmoove 02-16-2005, 04:03 PM I pretty sure it was Manhunt and not GTA. shmoove Mhtml 02-16-2005, 04:06 PM Well whatever it was, I'm 100% sure I could still get a copy of it anyway. cfc 02-16-2005, 04:06 PM Oh, it might have just been GTA3 (http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/grandtheftauto3/news_2832465.html) way back that was banned in Australia. I also found some google results questioning whether or not you'll get Half-Life 2 (legally, that is) but since I found nothing conclusive I'm assuming either it hasn't had the chance to be banned yet or it's old news and you already have it... Even if Manhunt were banned, why would you go to any lengths to get it anyway? All of the reviews I've read of it are terrible... Mhtml 02-16-2005, 04:07 PM Oh, well they did delay it for a while and force them to make changes in the name of censorship. But since then they haven't actually stopped any other GTA game in that manner. mcq 03-13-2005, 07:56 PM im still jealous! |
