what's involved in letting users get email addresses on my site?

I am a webmaster and one of my clients is asking what it would take to offer free emails. How does this work? any tutorials out there explaining it.

Has anyone done this to tell me how I would go about doing it?

So your client wants to start giving away free email accounts?

I'd advise against it unless you have a lot of bandwidth and know a lot about security, as systems like this are often abused...
