I was wanting to start learning Linux. But my first question is which flavor?

I have a copy of RedHat. Version 7.1 i believe.

I've heard some stuff about Mandrake and got a copy of that too.

I which flavor would you recommend?

I'm not that hot with system configuration, so I went for Mandrake because people told me it was easier to use. But those same people told me that actually RedHat is more stable.

My experience since then makes me think that Mandrake is a bit flaky - it crashes with monotonous regularity, and Opera doesn't work properly.

That's as much as I can tell you; dunno if that helps any

I think SuSE 8.0 provides the most "professional" desktop distro.

Personally I like vanilla.
