start application on PC

Hi

I have got a question. I wonder if you can use javascript to start other applications on the pc. But I dont want to just start it. I want to basicly simmulate the command promt and pass variables into the application.

Is this possible to do?

Well i wrote a small programme in c++ and want to write a webbased gui for it. it wouldnt go on the internet just on the local pc.

generally speaking, we discourage giving out this kind of information, for a couple of reasons.

1) the methods for doing this work only in Internet Explorer, and are extremely unreliable.
2) running a program without a user's permission from a webpage constitutes at the least an invasion of privacy, if not an a serious security risk.
