Hello, I've come to a decision about my website. I'm going to create a portfolio site, which will be the main url, and make my blog be blog.jalenack.com

So in the last two hours I've been drafting some photoshop mockups. I'd like to know what you think of these two. First one would probably be a splash page (are they too evil?) and the second is a draft of my portfolio page.

I'd like to get these as professional as possible. So be as harsh as it gets, i think i can take it now.

There may be small centering and alignment issues, because i just eyeballed everything, but you can comment on that if you like. The most obvious thing for me is to make all the screenshots of the portfolio picks to be the same height. Here are the mockups:

Thanks!

Looks nice, get rid of that pixelated style font though ;)

yeah the pixel font is ho hum unless you rusing the theme through out the site. the tabs on top are the first thing to not fit if you are. personaly i wouldn't mind seeing it in that sort of layout. thin borders. pixels, etc.. just to see if it flies.

splash screen? nah. unless your going for for a flash layout i'd skip it.
is the text under the sud-heading leading to something? is it just ther to fill space?

ok i agree with the pixel font. I'll try something else. I did like how the other words fit into the last M though.

Not sure what you mean by that. Could you clarify? Thanks

hello.. I've reworked the title...I think the Web Design part should darken up a bit..maybe to the same color as the period and J and all. You can check it out, I've roughly coded it out at http://jalenack.com/jalenack. The portfolio page and the index page are sketched out..Tell me what you think.

hey...I've done a lot more work on it...added content and rollovers on the links. Any new opinions. Content isn't complete obviously, but at least i got a start. I gotta kill that table on the portfolio and add pages for each project. Thanks! Oo and if someone could do some Win browser testing for me that would be lovely. Thanx!

I used IE to verify that it was killing your tabs, and in fact it is.

I like the new location and colour of the sub-titles.

On the contact page, I'm not sure if I like the flow from a center-aligned heading to a short left-aligned body of text to an orange-bordered center-aligned form. Indenting the form into the page would probably be fine, but the difference between the position of left-align and center-align is larger than normal on my 1280x1024 resolution. It looked fine with my browser window resized to 800x600 though.

I tried CSS-validating your Contact page (via the link at the bottom) and got this:

Target: http://jalenack.com/jalenack/about.html

Please, validate your XML document first!

Line 38

Column 6

The element type "p" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "
".

hey thanx for the screenshot...god looks like I've got a ways to go.

Validate the pages...on my to-do list..i think there are only a couple easy errors, the css validator gets picky with xhtml 1.1

If anyone notices...I'm sending text/html for now...but I will implement Error 404's php dtd checker eventually...so don't give me any crap about it.

I designed the site on a 1920x1200 screen. I didn't really like the end flow of the contact page...i'll get back to work on that..thanx.
