View Full Version : Writing an MMO

Hey, I want to write an MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online Game) and was wondering what would be the best language to write it in. I know Perl/CGI, so if it's possible to write it in in Perl, that would be great. Oh yeah, another concern would be file sharing errors and such from some many people accessing the same files. Anyone know solutions to these questions? Thanks, Dunna

I would definitly use php. I say this because I have had friends who wrote some online muliplayer games in php, using a MySQL database. Also, I know a huge online game was written in php that has a HUGE amount of users (outwar) This site also has to handle thousands of users trying to get people to click there links, and each time a link is clicked, the database needs to be updated with the users click count. So I think php would be a good choice because it's fast, and works great with a MySQL database, and there are a lot of sites out there that have done it with php. You can definitly write it in Perl, but I think php is the best choice.

Yes, this is what I have seen recommended else where also. I will try and learn how to use mySQL, as I have never tried using it and don't know where to get started (but I'm sure to find some helpful links on the mySQL board). Thanks for your help, and keep posting!
