Hiya,

Just wanting some very quick opinions on the RED WRITING in the description section of the page. Does it look tacky and/or unprofessional? LOL

www.yourleagueonline.com (http://www.yourleagueonline.com)

Thanks in advance :thumbsup:

Taylor.

No it doesn't look tacky - however, it does look like some kind of warning or error report - kind of makes me feel: sh*t what have I done now - not got the right browser, not got the right plug-in, missed a required field in a form?

I suppose that particular colour has become a convention for warnings on the net - sort of like blue underlined text is always assumed to be a link.

Hope that makes sense?

Gary

Makes perfect sense, thanks for the input!

I guess I just got a bit tired of people messaging me saying "How do I make a tourney" or "Can I see a demo of the league" - So figured that if I put that in red they might actually read it - but just a little worried that it looks, as I said, tacky or even just out of place.

It doesn't look tacky, but perhaps bolding it might be a better solution?

Removed a big critique;

Didn't see that you only wanted the red text evaluated

:o

In general, be very careful with saturated red; it almost always draws too much attention (like, fire engines) and is often hard to read as well.

If you want to focus people's attention on a certain piece of text there are effective, less obtrusive ways: move it up before other content, put it in a box with a -slightly- different background color and a distinctive but subtle border treatment, use a different font / size / style / weight (large blocks of bold or italic text aren't very pleasant to read either, though), etc.
You might want to consider decreasing the attention the large graphic draws, too, by reducing its size.

Other comments:
Your DOCTYPE should really be the absolute first thing on the page, so before the html starting tag, and it's a bit of a pity that you still used a table for the main menu, while the rest of the markup is in pretty good nick.
