how can I extract graphics from an mpeg video file?

I just want to be able to use some of the screens as graphics.

You could use Print Screen and then paste into your graphics program... ;)

is there any better way so I can get a clear picture or is that the best way?

Have you got any video editing software? Some of those let you view movies frame by frame/as stills.

Ulead Video Studio allows you to do that. And it extracts very good images too. You can download a trial version. But you got only some days to use it.
