The code is a little outdated and if you had read the rest of the thread you would have found better codes. Try this

Hi! I've searched through this thread and not sure if I found what I'm looking for. I have an embedded media player and need to have images (logos) located on the same page that play it's corresponding video .wmv when clicked.

Thanks in advance and sorry if this is a repeat!

: ) Well, using the example conveniently placed directly before my question....here is what I have so far, but I must be missing something...

There are issues with the positioning as well, but I'll work on that one later...

Would someone please paste me the code for the whole embedded player with songs info?

@garnetine WMP has problems playing wmv files directly from a link like the way you are trying.

@oasis While streaming with WMP is a bit complicated for a beginner there is code in this thread which you will have to read in order to get that shows the song information. Look for codes that have statusbar in them.

Go figure! Any suggestions as an alternative that still results in a similar design? (or am I out of my league? :confused: )

Greatly appreciate the quick response!!!

Is it just one video or will you be using more videos?

On one page, I need to put about 10 logos and link their corresponding .wmv 's all the same size and format on the same embedded player (hopefully - I want to keep it simple). I could easily pare that down if I need to. I may have 2 on another page.

Thanks!!!!

Hmm I think flash video might make this more interesting. Check out this site
http://www.gotoandlearn.com/
Look for the Accordian Video Application. He gives the files needed so you really won't need a flash application. However, you will need to convert the videos to .flv format. I recommend Riva FLV Encoder 2 (http://www.download.com/Riva-FLV-Encoder/3000-2140-10320097.html?part=dl-RivaFLVEn&subj=dl&tag=button) which is free. Its pretty good when it comes to wmv files. It can have problems with .mov files though.

Hi, i took your code, and it works fine for songs.

The only issue i have is, im trying to play an avi movie now.

But the movie only starts playing once the whole thing is downloaded.

Is there a way to make it stream so it starts playing more earlier?

Here's the code im using.

Hi there, if only i found this site ages ago.

I'm not all clued up on HTML or any other webbuilding stuff, i'm learning as i go along.

I have embedded a player on my website, it works fine exept i can't get song title updates. When my DJ's stream it does show the station name and bitrate but not the song info. When we use winamp as a stand alone player all te info is shown. Is there a code i can add to make this work?

This is where my player can be found

I liked the code for this. I'm glad your issue has been fixed. I hope you don't mind if I use this code for something else.

Aerospace_ENG your just the person I've been looking for (for html that is :p) !!

I read most of these post starting from 2005 so I didn't get to read all of them, forgive me if I'm asking a dup question.

I have a web page that displays videos via "iframes" using links. They work fine but theres one annoying thing happens everytime someone clicks on a link to play another vid..WHILE A VIDEO IS PLAYING....the page flashes as if it's reloading, I even tried just linking to a web page (yahoo) and it does the samething, only when a video is playing.

Just wondering if there's a way to click on another vid link while a video is playing and not have it do this.
(oh the little things that bug us)

if there's a better way of using iframes and/or Windows Media code please let me know.
thanks in advance

here's the code....

code in main web page

Read the rest of the posts. There are some scripts that write the player to the page directly. If you don't have the time to read the posts then I don't have the time to help you. Too many questions being answered over and over. Good luck.

Hi guys,

Im having an issue with my embedded player....

Basically, I need the player to start up paused. It does this fine.

However, my player needs to play files one after the other.

When My page loads and the player appears, it is paused. I press play and it plays the first movie. At the end of it, it stops. Its pulling from an encoder on our server which is scheduled to kick off the next movie as soon as that one finishes.

It works fine if you take the pause command out. Any ideas how i get it to rollover automatically without needing to push the play button again?

Hi...I want to create an .M3U file for a player ( windows media player ) that I have on my Blog ( Blogger )... But I want the M3U file to POINTS BACK TO "MY" harddrive, not somewhere else on the net... Do I have to use my IP ADDRESS for this? If not... How does it point back to "my" hard drive? Thanks

_Aerospace_Eng_

You will need to setup your own server but this is a lot more complicated than just getting some free web hosting and uploading the m3u file. Why do you want to do this?

Thanks Aerospace.. .Currently I'm pointing to a streaming radio station that vistitors to my blog hear upon going to the blog site. I thought I might be able to point to an M3U file on MY COMPUTER which in turn would play MP3 songs that I have on MY COMPUTER... Is that something I can do?

_Aerospace_Eng_

Only if you setup your system as a server which is not recommended on a computer that used everyday. What operating system do you have? Just be aware you might be violated copyrights when you try to play the mp3's on your system on your blog.

There is no OS called windows xp 2. There is windows xp home and windows xp pro. If you don't know enough about what operating system you have, then I don't recommend setting a up a server on your own system.

highland

Ok... I kinda shortened it.... I'm using XP Home Service Pack 2... Sorry to have not been clear...

In any case.. I found a website to host my music... I created a very basic .M3U playlist which I tested and works ( to my surprise ):

http://url.org/1/items/Stevie_B_1.mp3
http://url.org/2/items/Walking_In_The_Air.mp3
http://url.org/3/items/Chinese_Garden/ChineseGarden.mp3

I'll be adding more songs to the list... but is there a parameter code to use to have these play in a RANDOM order? I'd like visitors to my blog to hear a different song each time they enter.

My whole code for this on the blog is simply:

<embed src="http://url.org/my id/myfirstplaylist.m3u" autostart="true" hidden="false" loop="true" volume="full" showstatusbar="1"
height="200" width="900"></embed>

Thank you.

Please Help me! I'm trying to have multiple videos linked to one embedded player (wmv videos), and I tryed the one on the first page, and it works partially. Only one video I've linked works and the others don't, I'm wondering if it's the length and width of the video? Someone please give me a code or help!:confused:

Thanks.

You have to put the code of the mp3 files into the embedded media player I have this code on my website right now <embed allowScriptAccess="never" allowNetworking="internal" src="http://website.com/song.mp3" width="200" height="75" autostart="true"> you can change the code a little bit but if you have several songs you should put them into a m3u playlist and just put the m3u file in replace of the mp3 file. You should also search this forum for more help too...

I have this code on my website...<embed allowScriptAccess="never" allowNetworking="internal" src="http://travislongley.kicks-***.net/playlist.m3u" width="200" height="75" autostart="true"> Is there any way to show each song in the embedded version? because when you just open the .m3u file over the net you can select a single track in the standalone player.

I pretty much memorized all these posts (at least the ones that were relevant to me) and I got Media Player up and running in both IE and FF.
I have to work with a proprietary Content Management System and the only way I could make it work (after a lot of trial and error) is putting the whole code + the script inside a table.
Without a table the CMS throws out the .js part so I couldn't get the drop-down to work for a while - go figure.
Most people that are accessing this page are very happy that they can stream the Audio, rather than having to wait until the complete file downloads (they are Audio files averaging 10 MB).
One person claimed it did not work on his computer since RealOne is his default player.
Possible? He runs a PIII with Windows XP Home - He never installed any of the Service Packs.
Again, thanks a Million - I learned a lot the past month!!!!!

Hi all,
i wanna help in making a code for embedded media player for making stream more live.
Here is the idea:
1- thier will be a playlist for each day and this playlist will have other playlist inside it. Each playlist carry a specific program.
i.e.
Day playlist
|-------------- songs
|-------------- Playlist (Program 1)
|-------------- Playlist (Program 2)
|-------------- Songs
|-------------- Playlist (Program 3)
:
:
: and so on...

2- When the user enter the site the page will check its time and its date and according to them it will select the day playlist.

- 1st: it will check the date then it select the specific playlist date.
- 2nd: it will check the time and will select the specific program depending on that time.
But, what will happen if the user wanna to join the playlist and there is a played song in its half ?
in this case the code will direct him to a melody and when the song that play in the Main (day) playlist end. the user will be directed to the day playlist.

So that this code will be near to make LIVE Radio.
i hope this code can be done

Regards,
Xtremee

This is something WMP simply cannot do. Flash might be the better option but its going to take a lot of work. Probably a lot more than you can handle. I'm not sure how much exactly since I don't do too much flash. You are probably better off hiring a professional flash developer.

Great Thread. I used the PlayIt function _AeroSpace_Eng_ wrote in Post 211.
This works great in all browsers.
My question is can I combine this code with another function for launching full screen mode via a button.
I have enabled this on following site:

http://www.garabandalarchives.com

See code below:

(I realize I shouldn't be using frames, font tags, tables for formatting and ms shared borders - lame but i am still trying to learn css)

Hi i am trying to embed WMP for PIE(Pocket PC Internet Explorer Windows Mobile 5.0) . When u go to www.mubiquity .com you will see the player and through a PC browser you will be able to tune into my online station.

When I visit my site through my Treo700w via PIE I see the player but when I hit the play button an error pops up saying, "Parameter is Incorrect."

The code Im using is ........

<HTML>
<HEAD>
</HEAD>
<BODY>
<OBJECT ID="Player" height="320" width="240"
CLASSID="CLSID:6BF52A52-394A-11d3-B153-00C04F79FAA6">
</OBJECT>
<INPUT TYPE="BUTTON" NAME="BtnPlay" VALUE="Play" OnClick="StartMeUp()">
<SCRIPT>
<!--
function StartMeUp ()
{
Player.uiMode = "none";
Player.URL = "Myip"; ////omitted my real IP(this is a note not
appear in real code)

}

function ShutMeDown ()
{
Player.controls.stop();

}

-->
</SCRIPT>
</BODY>
</HTML>

Has anyone played around with embedding WMP into PIE and getting to work? Thanks to anyone who can help me get this working!

Cheers, Chaser

I've created a playlist with Windows Media Player, (wpl) and I would like to shuffle my videos everytime someone visits my page.. is there an embed code?? someone at school told me to simply add the command :

randomize wpl = "1" but it makes no sense not to mention that obviously doesn't work.. so here is my full code.. if anyone could help I would truly appreciate it!

Also if someone knows a way to make my player display the videos on MACs.. my playlist seems to only work on PCs..

<embed allowScriptAccess="never" allowNetworking="internal" enableJavaScript="false" src=http://members.cox.net/edgars/Edgatics.wpl width=395 height=293 loop="true" align="top" name=RAOCXplayer pluginspage=http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/Downloads/Contents/Products/MediaPlayer/ type=application/x-mplayer2 showc.?0? showstatusbar="0" autosize="true" volume="0" showtracker=0 enablec.?0? displaysize="1" zoomabsolute="zoom_value/2000"
style="filter:xray;"></embed>

Thats the old code. There is a more updated one that uses the PlayIt() function. Also this

is old. The newer ones I've wrote use this instead

Hi i am new member to this forum but i really liked it.
I have a problem.
I am developing site in asp.
I have embedded wmp in webpage.
I have stored file names and file paths in a database.
I am populating radio buttons dynamically from the values in the database and i am also able to grab those values through loop using javascript.
Now the problem comes as when i click on them i dont see any thing on the windows media player.
I am passing the value but dont know where am i making the mistake.

I just want that When i click on the radio buttons carrying dynamic values the wmp on the same page should play that file.
I am using javascript to get the entire radio buttons in the list and check which button is clicked to grab the filepath and name.

Please help me it is urgent for me to get this done.

We have script commands built into our wma and wmv files that direct content to be loaded in a frame of the browser when the files are played in the embedded Windows Media Player. For some reason Firefox doesn't like relative URLs and will only work with absolute URLs. IE seems to play fine.

If I go into the Windows Media File Editor I see the script as type URL and the Parameter is the address I'm referring to.

My test results are with WMP 9 and Firefox 2.0. IE 6 seems to open the URL from the player just fine if it is relative or absolute.

Anyone have any ideas?

I've always had this problem with relative urls and firefox. I have not found a solution.

EMBEDDED WMP + VISUALIZATIONS
I came here looking for a way to get the wmp embedded and playing visualizations
and I want to thank you guys for all the brainstorming.
If anyone else has got this far LOL this code should give you a start,
bear in mind its only one track,which you can copy and paste into
your html editor and it should work straight off the bat.
All you will need to do is change the urls from my web addy path
and mp3 to yours.

Hi

I have been following this thread to see if someone comes up with anything similar to what I need but it seems music is the main requirement here. I need a .WMV file embedded and have managed to get it working in Firefox but for some reason IE 6, The Avant IE6 browser and Opera 9.0 will show the player but not play the file.

I got the code below from an MSDN thread and only changed the dimensions of the player and the file name which it plays. Isn't it irony that Microsoft browsers won't play a Microsoft product? I am sure it just needs a "tweak" but I am only starting to learn HTML, PHP and CSS so I am only expert in confusing myself.

Anyone have any pointers?

Well first you need to actually read this thread because I do believe there is already an example of what you need. You should also update your code. It looks like you saw the first code and said this it then you stopped reading unfortunately the code you have won't work in Firefox. It will only work in IE. Also how do you intend on opening the new window? Using a link or automatically?

Make sure the location of the files you plan to use are in the same folder as the html file that has the player on it. The file path of your movie file is incorrect. Having files in the same place as your html file will help solve this issue.

_Aerospace_Eng_ I have read all 38 pages of this thread and its not helped my case at all :(
I am using a CMS called e107 and trying to show videos in a player, the vidoes source are from my downloads section so has links like http://groundnpound.org/request.php?2
Problem is... When the download is set to allow anyone to download (visitors or members) it works fine in IE and Firefox but as soon as I set the download to be accessed by members only it stops playing in Firefox. If you right click the video window in FF and click the error you get this
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."
I have two test files set up
Test 1 is set to let anyone view and works in both IE & FF
Test 2 is set to member only and is where the problem lies (both are playing the exact same video with just different names)
You can log in to see the issue using the following info
User = tester
Pass = tester

http://groundnpound.org/gnpmediacenter.php

It seems like your script isn't passing the right video to it. This is what is showing.

http://www.groundnpound.org/request.php?101
What does request.php do? How does it get the media file? Usually the way query strings work is they look something like this

http://www.groundnpound.org/request.php?vid=101
Then it pulls up 101.wmv or something by using

$video = $_GET['vid'];

And if I go to this file directly
http://www.groundnpound.org/request.php?101
I get a file not found.

GNP
12-13-2006, 02:31 AM
Not sure how you are seeing request.php?101 from viewing test 1 or test 2 but I went ahead and replaced all non existing videos with test1 and test2.

The files are pulling from these locations
Test 1 is http://groundnpound.org/request.php?2
Test 2 is http://groundnpound.org/request.php?3

The urls are both the urls that are provided from the download section of the site to download the file for each of those files http://groundnpound.org/download.php?list.6

If I go to the player page http://groundnpound.org/gnpmediacenter.php and select test 1 it plays fine in both IE and FF, when I right click the video window and go to properties it says the file url is http://groundnpound.org/request.php?2 (that file is set to let anyone both visitors and members download)
If I try to play test 2 while logged it it plays in IE but not FF and when I right click the video windo and go to properties it says the file url is http://groundnpound.org/request.php?3 (that file is set to only allow members to download)

I could only think that the server isn't allowing wmp to access that file due to being logged in and what not because its not giving permissions to WMP because it doesn't think its the same user. I'm not sure why it works in IE. Try using relative urls instead for example instead of

http://groundnpound.org/request.php?3
use

request.php?3

No that doesnt help any, its set up that way now if you want to have a look at the source

Im still not having any luck with this. Did you have a chance to checkout request.php?
Someone suggested it could have something to do with the way Firefox interacts with WMP but they had no idea on what I could try for a fix.
Thanks in advance for the help, Ive been trying for days on end and cant seem to get it working.

_Aerospace_Eng_
12-15-2006, 04:30 AM
I looked but I think its the way FF interacts with WMP. WMP is a plugin. IE is tied in with the OS so its able to use the active x and what not where as Firefox doesn't do this. Something I'll suggest which you may not like but won't take much work if you have the right software is convert your movie files to .flv format. FLV is short for flash video. Since flash is able to interact with the browser a little more than WMP I think its the solution for you. Dreamweaver 8 comes with prebuilt flash video players. It can be setup to display the videos dynamically similar to wmp. Videos will also be able to load as they play meaning they can start playing without having to completely download. Flash 8 has a FLV encoder that comes bundled with it.

GNP
12-15-2006, 09:54 PM
I thought about that but the reason I went with wmp was because several of the files I play will be sent in by users via the upload section of my site, I also wanted to restrict files so only a few could be viewed by all, most be viewed by members and a few special files to only be seen by special user classes. Not that Im lazy but working the site I am out of town a few days every week to cover events and also putting together the interviews, editing photos and doing play by play of the event so the less I have to do the better.

That being said... would I be able to use a flv player and have a selection drop down like I have now for users to select the videos? and then how would I be able to limit access to videos depending on non member, member, and special user classes.

Do you know of a good video converter that will convert wmv, avi and possibly mpeg to flv files for the player?

_Aerospace_Eng_
12-15-2006, 10:49 PM
I told what I knew about converters. I'm going to guess you probably don't have Flash 8? I did say you could have the drop down menu didn't I? I wrote this for someone else. Its mp3 player based but its the same concept

Well I got DW 8 and tried that but it doesnt work out, I cant get the option or a way to let all users have a few files, members have several files and a few special members in a user class get special files.
I just need a way to get my original set up to work in Firefox since that option allows me to control what user classes get what files.
Do you think there is no way to do it or just dont know a way to make it work?
Anywhere else you could suggest trying to get help with this issue? I tried IRC chat #firefox on their chat network but couldnt even get anyone to answer me in there :(

Thanks again for taking the time to read my posts and helping out.

Ok This forum has been great. I hate to post, I like to figure things out on my own. But I have read this forum over and over. I have tried everything, this is what I need to know.

Please remember I am also brand new to this, so far I have embedded a (WMV) player into my web site, I have also created 4 separate drop down lists. (With the extreme help of this forum) I also have read that you can take swf files/links and play them in an embedded player(WMV)(Through .asx files)

I have also tried links on I Films and U Tube that are flash links & nothing works.

I have also checked out doing a Flash player, I want stick with WMV. I link to different radio and tv stations across the world and WMV seems to work great for that. I was wondering how to either dedicate one of my playlists into flash , so when the files open they will all play in the same player.

I saw one area (on this forum) where you did a separate list with "Click on lt" and was lost!

I have tested everything and all kinds of links, and everything seems to work well(non flash) , in the (1) player that is dedicated for the 4 lists.(THANKS FOR THE CODE)

I have done hours of research on here and the net on asx files. I see where the media player will play flash or flash links through .asx.

My biggest problem is that # 1
# I am new to this, and am a jack of all and a master of none on programming.
#2 , totally wiped out,
#3 quite confused to be honest.

I have seen where some people blurt out questions, and don't research, I just want you to know I have read so much I am now in a state of confusion and exhaustion.:eek: .

I actually feel pretty good that I have this all up and working very well. except for the flash issue.

I am aware of that link,,, No I doo not have permission , and DO NOT planning on using this.. I was USING as an example, that was the first link I put in, I took out all the other links ithat section and others because I wanted to keep it as clean and to the point as possible. All my other links were asx files of my own instructional videos, that I made and that my provider gave me in a link in .asx form. I was experimenting. I want to do it right.

I want to link to a lot of the cartoons on U Tube and I film, I have a family site, and want to put something on for the kids. (these vids all tend to be flash).

I was going to change and show a link for an I Film link and did not do it. I certainly do not want to do anything illegal.

I spent the last 5 days with all types of links, This is my first attempt at embedding and video in this way.

Don't most normal people use IE anyways? I know this will only work in IE.

If anyone uses a different browser, don't the majority have still have IE?

I am asking because I really do not know.I am assuming.

Do you have any suggestions, besides the obviuos of switching to Flash? This project right here has been enough for now. I have thought of embedding a Flash screen on same page next to WMV in the future, and dealing only with IE for now. What do you thinK?

If you could help me on this, I would appreciate it, Thanks,

Okay if you intend on using youtube videos then start out testing with them. They even give you the code you need for you to put the videos on your own site. Cartoon network has a whole lot going on with their flash videos.

I just went to you tube, and every toon was in flash(So far). That is why I initially posted above. I need to know how to code my previous post?. Flash will not work in my current HTML code. I have already tried this previously. The way I understand ASX is that it should work. I do know that all files start with either http: or mms: in the asx files, is their a special code for Flash?

Is this even feasible? Can you combine the flash code, in my existing code html, so they both work?

I want to keep all the files in one of those directories, Is this if possible.

Note: U tube gives you a link code, or an embed code. Neither will work in my existing HTML code.

Thank you Aero

Additional Comment 3:00: I could also embed flash and put the screens side by side. but I believe this would be another large project, and as stated before, with my knowledge in this area.... would take me a looong time. Maybe I should just hold off on the toons.

You obviously didn't inspect the code youtube gave you very carefully. They give you the url to the flash movie directly. Learn to study code before you say something can't be done.

Thank you very much! I really appreciate it. NOW I finally get it!

<param name="movie" value= "http://www.youtube.com/v/MRpT-btRjm0"

In all the searching I did I never found an explanation on the above. The reason I did not see this, is because I did not know what I was looking for.

I went and tried the URL above in the original code I posted, and it workks great!

When I saw all this code in a link I thought it was all suppose to be put into my existing code/html.

I went and typed in "param name=movie" and have found all kinds of info. I was searching on

Keywords like "Embedded media and flash, .asx and flash, .asx and media player. NOTHING ever came up about

param name=moviemeans flash/.swf

I really appreciate your assistance and help . I know you were getting frustrated, but I still want to say thanks. I am sure it gets frustrating dealing with new ones like myself.

Is there anyway to ban someone from clicking/entering on/a url while watching a vid from an .asx. file.

Why? would I like to this?

My site is family oriented and if I have a child watching a toon (They have some great toons) that is coming from UTube, and that kid clicks on the screen , it will take them into the U Tube site, where they can be exposed to anything.

I know that is what U tube does to get people to their site. But, there ad is still up on the vid being viewed, so.......

Any Suggestions?

I read something on invokeURL and saw another example like BannURL right in the asx file, couldn't get anything to work.

Thanks.

I have played around, and nothing has worked.

Hi, I noticed something about some videos. People who use the most recent Windows Media Player sometimes have the video cut off when there's no width and height defined. Even with autosize enabled. I'm not sure, but even my older version gets the volume meter cut off. Is there a way to fix this without defining the size manually?

This is an example of a cut-off video (for some players):

http://thefreewarecentral.com/game_view.php?id=8&vid=1

Any way to fix it for those who experience the cut-off?

excuse my noobness. Great thread...found similar websites that talk about this. My questions is, can i use a graphic already on the webpage instead of doing a INPUT = BUTTON command? I designed graphics but can't link them together.

Well, I did but got an error and it closed the page saying page can't be displayed "locally"

Yes and no. For Internet Explorer it can be done but only in Internet Explorer. Other users will get errors and what not. At most a simple play and stop button can be made but thats about it. I suggest you use flash. www.gotoandlearn.com has some good resources on flash video. The riva flv encoder can convert some videos to .flv format. Flash 8 comes with an flv encoder. Good luck.

Thanks for quick reply. We attempted flash but found it econmically better to run WMS server instead of flash servers. GOTOANDLEARN is a great site...

So, my example model is CNN.com video site. They are using WMS servers. Everything they created is custom and would "assume" they work under other browsers (firefox, netscape, etc..). Is there good examples how to code java similar to that?

Hi
I have a problem here
I have a website in asp and wmp runs fine in asp.
Now due to cost effective i am moving on to Linux and PHP
i have done that part and wmp runs fine in php web page also.

i have used AJAX technology to load WMP.
but now the problem is there .

1) I want to use the same AJAX technology for database query. but not able to do that so that the WMP should keep on playing the video and we can navigate through rest of video files.
Can some body help me in implementing AJAX and PHP.

2) If i am playing that file in firefox i can only see ready option but could not play the file.
i have tested the code and using OBJECT TAG.
But i am not able to play the file in Firefox.

Please help me.
thanks

What code are you using? Firefox is picky on how things are set. Also what specific controls were you trying to have? Just a play and stop buttons?

In addition to play and stop, i had, volume up, down and mute to go along
with it. My next goal was to do the seek bar and a full screen button but we have a lot of users on firefox so we just may opt for the player controls it self.

The code i was using was the javascript functions created then making the form as buttons with the input = command. I found it on another site, then saw it here also.

Once i get back to the computer, i can post the code for you...

is there a way to unload a embedded media player when its running?
I think there is a delay when we switch pages when a player is running. We are currenlty using CSS and whenever it wants to exit, enter a page with a movie already playing, it pauses...when select different videos, it works fine

We are using a javascript command to switch movies from one page on the fly

TIA

Been poking around the SDK docs and I don't see a way to have WMP display the first frame of the video, but not autostart the whole thing. Alternatively, displaying a still before you hit play would be fine, too. Currently it's just black until it starts playing.

Hopefully the still or first frame would load when the web page does. (even before you "click to use this ActiveX control).

let me know if anyone has any insight.

Hello All, This is my first post; I trawled this thread but either missed or misunderstood the answer to my question (please be gentle with me).

My question involves randomization of songs/songs on a playlist.

I have a basic website, which makes use of embedded Windows Media Player to play a static playlist(m3u): http://www.eventpolynesia.com/ (samoa global radio, pacific global radio buttons).

What I would like very much to happen, is for the embedded media player to play songs/adverts in a random (dynamic) order, every time it is invoked.

Please understand that I do not want my listeners to have the facility to choose songs from a list, but rather, that the embedded player behaves exactly like a radio station, delivering a 'fresh' (random) line-up of songs every time it is activated.

In the event this is too hard to achieve via scripting, I had wondered about having a whole pile of static playlists, and the embedded player randomly selecting one of them, which would still give a semi dynamic feel to playback.

Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated!

You are better off cutting the movie in parts rather than having the full video on your site making people have to wait before it actually loads.

Bobbonkers

Ohh..., you see i dont know how media previewmode works, does it download the whole movie Then play 10 secs of it, or just download the 10 secs and play it.
these clips are going to be for sale to phones and pc so it would be best not to leave the whole clip in cache
I think you mean have a preview movie of 10 secs uploaded and in the database that the plays instead of the "real movie":eek:
I was trying to get away without doing that, but if thats the only way to do it, then it looks like I'm gonna lose a whole weekend or more.
Thanks bud:thumbsup:

Hello Aerospace.. You've been of great to help to me in the past.. I'm hoping you can help me out again on something....

I have this code for QuickTime to play 10 files one after the other, which for some reason no longer works... I'm thinking its because when I added it to my blog last year, I had QuickTime version 5 on my PC and now I have version 7...

Below is the original code I was using that no longer works.... I have taken out the URLs to the .mov files that the player points to so they don't show up here... If you can... please tell me what possibly can be wrong with this after it was working fine before I upgraded to QuickTime Version 7... Thank you.

Just 2 more things then, if I can trouble you.

1- I know I can use an M3U play list for audio files... Does the M3U list work the same way for Video files as well?

2- How can I manipulate the code below, to work with the QuickTime code I'm now using (the one in my original question), to give visitors to my blog a choice of what to see or hear... I've tried, but all that happens is that the list comes up, but when clicked on, it does nothing... Something is wrong here and I can't, for the life of me, figure it out... I've taken up enough of you time and Lord knows, I've spent no less that 30 hours trying to do this... As I would also like to do the same thing for FLASH videos, just tell me where I have to send the money order... before I shoot myself .

Hey, I've seen many different types of object embedding codes for wmp streams. All which do different stuff. One that I came across was that it stays black for about a minute and then shows the stream (this of course is to prevent people from knowing where they got the link from) I was wondering if there is anyway I can customize my own media player code?

Hi, could some1 please help me customise this code to support my needs...
Let me explain what I would like to do, although this is a little difficult to explain
I have serious issues with content control, since I manage alot of links to streamed media, and having to embed each link into a new page is really annoying and time consuming...

Right so bassically my site is an Anime Streamed Content Site... all our Streams are uploaded to a streaming server and then our links are embedded into our site... But now here is my problem, see for each stream I have a little page giving the description etc... then by clicking the Play Now button, a new window pops-up with the Embedded Player and the link plays... But each time I need to create the new page and embed the media within it...

Could I only create 1 page with the Embedded Windows Media Player, and then that page could read the direct link to the stream off its reffering page?
In other words, is there a way that I only have to create the Embedded Windows Media Player once, and then it can get the link to the Media from the Info Page and Reffering Link?

I am not too sure that the explaination is exactly clear on what I want... but all in all, i was wondering if there was a way of making the Embedded Media Player pop-up in a new window once the link was clicked...

Any Help would be greatly Appreciated

Edit:
Dont know if this will help anyone... but I have been thinking along the lines of having to use Dynamic Content for the PopUp, but my only problem is chaninging the Stream... I am not too sure on how to create the link so when it is clicked it creates the Pop-Up and also knows which link to use for the Stream...

Can you use the same code to build a playlist on a MAC OS X system? Also what text program do you use to make an m3u file on a Mac? And finally, how do you map out the location of the file? (In other words on a PC you can go C://yourfile.mp3) I hope someone can help me, because I am trying to help a friend and don't know much about a MAC. So thanks for your help!

Howdy folks, I need a bit of help.
I'm building a website and want to embed music into it in a specific way: I'd like to have the music play at random when it loads and keep playing after the first song is done. My problem is that I've only been able to make it do one or the other.
The random was done with a javascript, but it stops playing after the first song is over. The continuous play was done with simple embedding using a playlist. If anyone knows of a way this can be done sans-flash, please let me know. I'll check back here or you can email me at daikusotare@gmail.com. Thanks in advance guys.

Edit: the player is also going to be invisible, so no need to help with a particular interface. It's just going to be background music.

I like the code for drop down, but it is for *.mp3, would this work for *.m3u?
If not, thats what I'm after. Also I want it to show full player features.

Thanks.

Yes it will work for m3u. Just make sure ShowControls is set to 1 and uimode="true".

The code you used as an example is outdated. The original code was meant so the file would load into the object tag. The above code only works in IE however onclick in the actual object tag won't work in many browsers.

The alert should stop when you upload your page onto the internet. Please try this code, it uses the embed tag, but its the only way that I know is supported in FF and IE, I can use the object tag using a different mime type but this isn't supported in IE

will this work if you substitute the url to the individual music files rather that m3u playlists?

I cam to this forum looking for a solution to my problem. I am an instructor teaching english accent to students. I am trying to develop a simple exercise where students can play, listen and record sounds via the browser.

I was able to link an audio file to play in the browser window ( IE6+Win XP) using Windows sound recorder. But im unable to make it record sound through a record button link in the browser. Here is the code for the play function that i have:

<html>
<head>
<bgsound src="#" id="soundeffect" loop=1 autostart="true" />

<script type="text/javascript">

var soundfile="sidebar.wav" //path to sound file, or pass in filename directly into playsound()

function playsound(soundfile){
if (document.all && document.getElementById){
document.getElementById("soundeffect").src="" //reset first in case of problems
document.getElementById("soundeffect").src=soundfile
}
}

function bindsound(tag, soundfile, masterElement){
if (!window.event) return
var source=event.srcElement
while (source!=masterElement && source.tagName!="HTML"){
if (source.tagName==tag.toUpperCase()){
playsound(soundfile)
break
}
source=source.parentElement
}
}

</script>
</head>
<body>

<a href="#" onClick="playsound('d:\\sammy.mp3')">Example 2</a>

</body></html>

I found this code in one of dhtml sites. Can anybody help me with this please?

Hi Aerospace,

First I say thanks alot for your hard labour in this forum..was a great help for me.
I got some media files both audio & video between 5 & 40 MB which i would like to stick in my website. It would be my wish that my guests wont have a tough time of opening this files. my questions are:-

Q1) Should or must I convert this files to a different format so as to compress them for a quicker play?

Q2) I got Dreamweaver & Frontpage. Which from the two is according to your experience more adviceble and is it better to use the macromedia player or the WMP?

Thanks in advance Aerospace

Convert them to .flv format. There are free converters out there. Riva 2.0 FLV Encoder is one of them. Once you convert them check out www.gotoandlearn.com for tutorials on flash video. Good luck.

Hi
First of all i'd like to tanks Aerospace for his help.:thumbsup: I now have a place to come and look for embed music.

a) first i've created an online radio, it "diffuse" in Ogg Vorbis (excuse me i'm french and i'm not sure this is the right word). I've used the player (thread28) with the menu, but it plays only one song and then it stops. Iwas wondering if ther was an embed player that can play this format.

b) i've put in this menu m3u files that contains mp3, and the reference is from my ftp server. But it wors only in IE, not firefox. And if i put a link to download it, the downloded file plays only using window media player

hey there,

just a quick question really. I have an embedded mediaplayer and I would ideally like to display things like "buffering" and "playing" in a <div> tag so my question is: Is there anyway to get the text that displays in the black mediaplayer status bar thing as a variable?

We have streaming video encoded at 320x240, but on the page we have an embedded player resized so that it is smaller (183x203 - including the controls). In Firefox it doesn't seem to resize the player correctly and you just get the upper left hand portion of the video and no controls. What follows is the html used to embed the player:

<OBJECT ID="MediaPlayer" classid="CLSID:22d6f312-b0f6-11d0-94ab-0080c74c7e95"

Is this a known issue with Firefox and the embedded Windows Media Player?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

I am setting up a custom player for the fun of it, and I'm having difficulty with streams that do not have a nice .asx, .wmv, etc. extension. Some of these files will open in a stand-alone Windows Media Player, but when I embed one in my page, it generally fails if it doesn't conform to a standard, media-file extension. I have seen InvokeURLs on the web and was wondering if that parameter would help? Similarly, some web pages use a generate_file.asp to hide the source. Can't get those to work in Media player either.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I'm having a problem with this code. It will play in Internet Explorer (blegh) but won't even show up on the page in Mozilla Firefox. Could you help me out?

p.s. Sorry I'm a bit new to this and haven't done much video embedding.

Hello All,

Question regarding the use of a port number in the media source url.

I have found a webpage utilizing an embedded media player where the application and source url includes a port ":8000" in the string.

Example:

TYPE="application/x-oleobject"><PARAM NAME="FileName" VALUE="http://www.url.com:8000" valuetype="ref">

<EMBED TYPE="application/x-mplayer2" SRC="http://www.url.com:8000"
NAME="MediaPlayer"
WIDTH=320
HEIGHT=240></EMBED>

I would like to understand what this means/does in functionality?

What I have found, is that this particular embedded player will "get through" the "Restriction" that the IT Department has placed on loading/playing media files from the internet.

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

I tried the code and, after a while, I figured out that the script has to be in the same folder as the audio resources (yes, it works GREAT!). Can the code be altered so that they can be in different folders?

Hoping, and wondering. :-)

A stupid question to ask probably but i have embedded the media player into a website i am putting together via Dreamweaver but it wont actually play the file selected, why?

The site is not uploaded yet so i am just testing via the preview mode on my home puter to Opera web browser.

Just wondering if i need to upload the site to test it.

To simplify things, as there are going to be hopefully a lot of mp3 files on seperate pages , would it be possible to click on a file via any page and have windows media player open and play the file automatically then minimise or exit after the file has played?

Ths would be the answer to all my prayers.

Hi!

I hope someone can help me with a coding problem of mine? It must be simple, but I just can't find the problem. I think I've read through the forum (by now quite long) but can't find the key (but for sure, this is the forum I used to get the player working in the first place).

I have a page that has an embedded media player and a drop-down list of playlists. (All of this is actually a kludge 'cuz my server won't allow WMA files, so I have to go to WAV playlists instead.)

(I also have 2 iFrames that are updated as the selection is changed, no problem here though.)

My problem is I can't get media player to go to the next selection. It won't go even by clicking the Next button.

Why should it? Having a select menu alone doesn't automatically create a playlist. You need to provide a playlist to the player. Look for the posts in this thread that talk about making an m3u playlist. I would check with your host first to see if they allow .m3u files. Also a wav file can be quite large. Why not convert them into mp3 files?

Hi

I have embedded media player that uses a m3u playlist file which is generated by user selection of the songs on the album page.

I wanted find out if there is a way of changing the name of the song on the html of the player page when the song changes.

This is wat the m3u file looks like:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:999, Main Hoon Don
../mplayer/01_-_main_hoon_don.mp3
#EXTINF:999, Don - The Theme
../mplayer/06_-_don_the_theme.mp3
#EXTINF:999, Don Revisited
../mplayer/07_-_don_revisited.mp3

any ideas anyone ??

Why not convert them into mp3 files?

First of all, I can't use MP3 or WMA on my free server (110mb.com; any suggestions on free servers that do)? I have no choice at the moment but to use WAVs at reduced quality (no problem for my purpose though). Second of all, I already have the M3U files written (as per this forum) and uploaded. They are already linked to the drop-down selectors. When I select a playlist, it does connect to the 1st item and automatically plays. But when the 1st one is through playing it doesn't continue with the 2nd one, either automatically or by clicking Next.

The audio formats are all identical, the playlist entries are as they should be, code seems to be right, etc. ... :confused: The code I use for the embedded player works great on other (similar) pages, but just for WAV sources (drop-downs or radio buttons, with or without iframes). This is my 1st M3U sourced page.

"Stuck" is a good word I guess. :(

Here's most of the code here (key areas in BLUE):

i do live video and audio streaming using windows embeded media player windows media services on my site.
now i would like to limit viewers time to maybe 2 minutes free viewing time...is there a script or any possible way that i can accomplish this mission.
all help will be greatly be appreciated

Excellent, extensive post. And I actually read all of it! shew. 2 years of posting and still going.

Anyway. I have a theoretical question regarding WMP, Javascript and Firefox. I designed a webpage that has an Activex WMP that plays in Mozilla just fine, I also have a Javascript code that does a countdown timer and a javascript code that adds a random quote to the page when refreshed. Both also work fine.

http://cascadefootball.net

And it's been said many times on here, which is that the random playlist that you have created here won't work in firefox, but I'm wondering if anyone has more insight as to why since Javascript works, and WMP works, but not both?

Here is my random playlist that I just added with Aero's code. Exactly what I was looking for. And it's not really a big deal. According to my statistics, I'm the only one that visits my site with Firefox.

What you may have read was that version of the script wouldn't work. Firefox needs the embed tag to use WMP. It can use the object tag but there are many cross browser issues with this. Javascript functions such as play() and stop() won't work in Firefox because requires that you actually install activex. The script you are using because its the correct one that I've been trying to tell people to use. Thats the one that was written to work in Firefox and other browsers. Ironically though your script doesn't work in Firefox for me. That may be because I'm using WMP 11. I don't know. Could also be the fact that I'm on Vista.

Grambo58

Interesting. So the code that you wrote that I am using is specifically designed to work for Firefox? I am using XP Pro SP2, WMP 10 and Firefox 2.0.0.4 and it doesn't work for me either. I'm not going to pretend to know much about the code though. I can just read it well enough to edit it. :)

And again, it only affects me and not the 15 - 20 people that use my site on a regular basis.

Could there be any problems with me creating my website in Frontpage? Maybe due to my web server having frontpage extensions turned on?

I remember having an issue trying to dynamically play .wmv files. It will play mp3s and wav files just fine.

Hey guys, i'm new to html codes but yet again i have had experience previously in life but forgot most of it. Simply what my problem is that i am trying to make make my own custom media player....i have the embeded media player in the place i want it to be al i need is the buttons such as play pause next and previous. But this is where i don't no.

So far my code looks like this:

Hello all,

I am using the code below to load and display a wmv within a webpage:

All works well, but I am in need of a favour and help.

The wmv file is 15Mb and my aim is for the user to be able to jump to different timeframes within this file using buttons/links on the page, outside the embedded player.

4. Dessert

Can anyone help me in how to do this please?

This isn't goint to happen using just windows media player. You will need convert the video to .flv format and then you will need to create your own flash video player. If you don't know flash then you may consider hiring someone to do this for you.

Hi.

This is a long thread so I don't know if this has been asked before.

I just added the windows mediaplayer to one of my webpages and it works fine except when I try to skip forwards or backwards with the slider, it has no effect at all. It gets pretty annoying when, for example, wanting to see the last 10 seconds of a 3 minute movie. How can this be fixed? I HAVE put the "Allowscan" attribute to "true"

Is it a movieformat issue? Because I first tried with .avi-files. Then the player wouldn't buffer and would preload the whole movie before being able to watch, but the slider worked. Then I saved my moviefiles as .wmv, and then it buffered fine, but as stated above, I couldnt use the slider for skipping forwards or backwards. Any ideas?

I would like to change the url parameter in my embedded wmp by passing the new url via query string.

http://mysite/wmppage.html?mms://server/pubpoint

I have no problem getting the correct query string to the second page, but how do I get query string from the URI and then change the URL parameter in the embedded player?

This information here is amazing!

Aerospace is awesome!

I have a dilemma and have tried several of the ideas here in an attempt to get my embedded player to play songs more randomly. I tried active-x code, php, and html. nothing seems to work.

I have cut and pasted routine after routine, made changes, corrected, to absolutely no avail.

My page is here http://okinawa.j-kj.com/xmb/

See, I have the media player working, with only one song or with an asx play list. I want to build a library of songs and select a random song out of that library to play looped. All songs are mp3.

The media player is in footer.php at this site.

I get really close with this code here.

"<?php

$filename = "khs1.asx";
$opener = file("$filename");
$countSong = count($opener);
$countSong = $countSong-1;
$randomSong = rand(0, $countSong);
src=\"$opener[$randomSong]\">";

?>

<OBJECT id='mediaPlayer' width="300" height="120"
classid='CLSID:22d6f312-b0f6-11d0-94ab-0080c74c7e95'

codebase='http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/controls/mplayer/en/nsmp2inf.cab#Version=5,1,52,701'
standby='Loading Microsoft Windows Media Player components...' type='application/x-oleobject'>
<param name='fileName' value='$opener[$randomsong]'>
<param name='animationatStart' value='true'>
<param name='transparentatStart' value='true'>
<PARAM NAME="ShowDisplay" VALUE="true">
<param name='autoStart' value="true">
<param name='showControls' value="true">
<param name='loop' value="true">
<EMBED type='application/x-mplayer2'
pluginspage='http://microsoft.com/windows/mediaplayer/en/download/'
id='mediaPlayer' name='mediaPlayer' displaysize='4' autosize='-1'
bgcolor='darkblue' showcontrols="true" showtracker='-1'
showdisplay='0' showstatusbar='-1' videoborder3d='-1' width="300" height="120"
src="$opener[$randomsong]" autostart="true" designtimesp='5311' loop="true">
</OBJECT>"

Firefox tells me that the src is empty. I know that I must be missing something fairly small and would really appreciate any light you can shed on my folly.

I also have a page here http://okinawa.j-kj.com/xmb/music/khs1.html
that works in a way that is workable, if it is easier to connect this page to the php file for the footer of the other page, that would work too. The only problem with the html page is that it calls quick time in IE and wmp in firefox, which is also kinda frustrating.

Thank you for your help.

Hello,

I have embeded the media player to my site but i cannot find the following... I want to use the event when the track ends in order to refresh my page or to go to another page. Is there a way to do so using java and embeded media player?

Thanks in advance

I have found this great documentation!!

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb249361(VS.85).aspx

there is a way using javascript to handle the events of the media player. it says that there is a MediaEnded event when a track completes playing. But it hasn't work for me...

Also i couldn't make the event handler work in firefox although it says it does.

And something last, if you look in some other relative resources you can find how to embed mediaplayer in firefox without problem using the object tag. and to control it!

It is very helpfull!

The only help i want is someone to test it in firefox and to test the MediaEnd event to inform me if i am wrong. which i hope to!

you are a legend man, thanks so much for the code!!! I had been so close but could not for the life of me find the stretchtofit command, so it would fix the buttons up properly! It was cutting the NEXT TRACK button off, of all things so people could fast forward thru the song (while it sounds teeerrrrible I might add) to get to the next one or suffer! :)

Your code displays it perfectly, in both IE and Firefox. Legendary stuff! :D

Thanks in advance!

First of all this is how i embed the player and it works for both ie and ff

<SCRIPT type="text/javascript">
document.write('<OBJECT id="Player"');
if(-1 != navigator.userAgent.indexOf("MSIE"))
{
document.write(' classid="clsid:6BF52A52-394A-11d3-B153-00C04F79FAA6"');
}
else if(-1 != navigator.userAgent.indexOf("Firefox"))
{
document.write(' type="application/x-ms-wmp"');
}
document.write(' width=300 height=60>');
document.write(' <PARAM name="autoStart" value="true" />');
document.write(' <PARAM NAME="SendPlayStateChangeEvents" VALUE="True">');
document.write(' <PARAM NAME="URL" VALUE="Track.mp3" />');
document.write(' </OBJECT>');
</SCRIPT>

now... the event handler code is this:

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE = "JScript" FOR = Player EVENT = playStateChange(NewState)>

// Test for the player current state, display a message for each.
switch (NewState){
case 8:
//code here
break;

// Other cases go here.

}
</SCRIPT>

i use only the state 8 which is the media ended event.

The only problem i have is that the player does not maintain the volume that the user selects every time...

I have source for player that works just fine now. I need to make two players of it:

First one should be the same as above, but I need it to play one song after another...

Second one would be would be something like a radio... It should play random song when this page is loaded. Also it needs to play another random song after first one is over. And it would be nice if list of songs could be in m3u file, not in <option> tag like here.

Here it is the page with player:

hi
is it possible to load an image in the player until the user clicks 'play'. I don't want to have a black background if no video is played. or to show a frame from the video when the page is loaded...

and is it possible to start the video by clicking/double clicking the area where the video will show?
I have tried different values for ClickToPlay parameter but didn't get any result. I'm not even sure what ClickToPlay does.

thank in advance, guys!

Hello, and thank you for allowing me to be part of this forum. I hope somebody can help me.

I found a posting about an Embedded Windows Media Player that was posted back in 2005 .. I tried the code, while working on my computer, and it worked perfectly! But, when I uploaded the page to my server, the media controls showed as a broken link.

I am guessing? it has something to do with the object id?

I'm not that advanced in coding to know about that.

This is the code from the post I mentioned earlier:

Thanks for allowing me to be part of this forum. I hope somebody can help me.

I made an Embedded Windows Media Player using playlist (.m3u) and it works using intranet. But, when I've tried to play using extranet, playlist is not played.

One of my page is http://mypages.no-ip.info/juansantiago/radio/salsa-1.html.

Could you help me what I should do?

Thanks,
Juan

I think the spaces in the file names might be causing the issues. You should also be using this instead

<object type="video/x-ms-wmv"
data="http://mypages.no-ip.info/juansantiago/radio/playlist/salsa-1.m3u"
width="280" height="46">
<param name="src"
value="http://mypages.no-ip.info/juansantiago/radio/playlist/salsa-1.m3u" />
<param name="autostart" value="true" />
<param name="controller" value="true" />
</object>

_Aerospace_ thanks for your answer. :thumbsup: The problem was in the .m3u list. The path was wrong, it was pointed to localhost.

Do you know how I can display the song that is playing from .m3u list?

By the way, I've changed the address to http://mypages.no-ip.info/radiojb/index.html

Wow.. this has to be the longest running thread I've ever seen.

Can anyone make these things work via Javascript with the application/x-ms-wmp plugin?
1/ stretch the video when the player size is changed in Safari & Firefox
2/ change the volume level in Safari?

The job is finished but I never got those 2 things working. I guess I just hate being beaten by Microsoft.

Hi, I originally had this sorted but come back from holiday and now my website is displaying differently. I'm sure this is a firefox/coding issue as it displays as I wish in IE. Literally I just want the controls hidden so the video shows itself only. I'm sure my code has issues in it now as I've been playing with it all morning and got a bit lost.

The True and False values were originally '1' and '0' as I had read was required elsewhere. I'm not sure if I am allowed to post a link to my site here so the problem can be seen in both firefox and IE.

Hi Nad,

I don't know why your site would display differently on your computer unless something has changed. Have you upgraded, or added any plugins for, Firefox or Safari?

Even though the embed tag with application/x-mplayer2 is still functional, there is a newer firefox plugin available for the windows media player that makes the embed tag unnecessary. Microsofts msdn documentation is here..
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb614509(VS.85).aspx

A different method that may suit you, for both IE and non IE browsers in the same Object, is here...
http://www.websystem.com.ua/articles/html/byebyeembed.html

Hope that helps

Hi, thanks for that. Will try it and see if it helps although it tends to go on about IE issues rather than Firefox and I feel its FF that is the issue at this point in time rather than my poor coding :D

That whole area of msdn is about the windows media player. There are around 20 pages with info specifically for Firefox. eg:-
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb614515(VS.85).aspx

That page is called "Using the Windows Media Player Control with Firefox". Can't get much more Firefox oriented than that ;) There are at least 20 pages in the wmp area that have information on how to do things with wmp in Firefox.

As to your hide the controls issue, I had a quick go with the application/x-mplayer2 embed and could not remove the controls with either param entries or script in Firefox 2 or Safari doing what MS recommends for Netscape4+ (using the mplayer2 plugin).

However, using application/x-ms-wmp :-

<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
function doObjTag(){
navigator.userAgent.indexOf("MSIE") != -1 ? document.write('<object id="MediaPlayer" width="320" height="240" classid="clsid:6BF52A52-394A-11D3-B153-00C04F79FAA6"/>\n') : document.write('<object type="application/x-ms-wmp" width="320" height="240" id="MediaPlayer" data="Intro Movie.wmv"/>\n');
}
// -->
</script>
</head>

<body>
<div id ="movie">
<div align="center">
<script type="text/javascript">doObjTag()</script>
<param name="url" value="Intro Movie.wmv" />
<param name="uiMode" value="none" />
<param name="PlayCount" value="3"/>
</object>
</div>
</div>
</body>
</html>

There's your (nearly completely) script controllable 320x240 wmp with autostart, 2 replays and no controls for Firefox, Safari and IE5+ in 8 lines of code. I'd bet there are other more efficient ways to do it. Hmmmm... I'm not actually certain that it'll only replay twice coz I didn't leave the .wmv runnin for that long.

Anyway, I'm sure you can adapt that for your AC_AX_RunContent script.

Hi, I got a bit lost with all the coding so copied some of the coding you suggested into mine. I'm sure it could be trimmed down but for the meantime its working! I couldn't put the function section in the head as its template driven so done it as below:

<div id ="movie">
<div align="center">
<script type="text/javascript">
AC_AX_RunContent( 'id','MediaPlayer','width','320','height','240','align','center','classid','CLSID:6BF52A52-394A-11D3-B153-00C04F79FAA6','standby','Loading Windows Media Player components...','type','application/x-ms-wmp','src','Intro Movie.wmv','url','Intro Movie.wmv','uimode','none','playcount','3' ); //end AC code
</script>
<noscript>
<object id="MediaPlayer" width="320" height="240" align="center" classid="CLSID:6BF52A52-394A-11D3-B153-00C04F79FAA6"
standby="Loading Windows Media Player components..." type="application/x-ms-wmp">
<param name="url" value="Intro Movie.wmv" />
<param name="uiMode" value="none" />
<param name="PlayCount" value="3"/>
<embed src="Intro Movie.wmv" width="320" height="240" align="center" url="Intro Movie.wmv" uimode="none" playcount="3"></embed>
</object>
</noscript>
</div>
</div>

If it can be cleaned up let me know but thanks for all your help!

i'm brand new on this forum and as you can tell this thread is super long so i'm sorry if this has been answered more than once. but basically i want to limit the play time of an embedded wmp to 5 seconds.... here's my code.

pnMediaPlayer.Controls.Add(New LiteralControl("<object id='VIDEO' width='300px' style='height: 60px;' classid = 'CLSID:6BF52A52-394A-11d3-B153-00C04F79FAA6' type='application/x-oleobject'>" & _
"<param name='URL' value='" & Request.ApplicationPath.TrimEnd("/") & "/Uploads/" & strFileName & "'/>" & _
"<param name='SendPlayStateChangeEvents' value='true'/>" & _
"<param name='AutoStart' value='true'/>" & _
"<param name='SelectionStart' value='0'>" & _
"<param name='SelectionEnd' value='5'>" & _
"<param name='uiMode' value='full'/>" & _
"<param name='PlayCount' value='1'/>" & _
"<param name='stretchToFit' value='true'/>" & _
"<param name='Volume' value='80'/>" & _
"<param name='enableContextMenu' value='false'/>" & _
"<param name='windowlessVideo' value='false'/>" & _
"</object>"))

as you can see by the highlighted area i've tried the selectionstart/end but it doesn't work. is this possible what i'm trying to do?

Hi alliancejhall,

According to
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb614511(VS.85).aspx
SelectionStart and SelectionEnd aren't 'PARAM elements of the object element'. I don't remember seeing SelectionStart or SelectionEnd in the wmp pages.

If it isn't possible to only play a selection you could make 5sec videos or use a script to limit the play time. eg
var wmpID=document.getElementById("VIDEO");
setTimeout("wmpID.controls.stop",5000);
You probably won't want to start the timer until the video starts playing.

strScript.Append("<script language='javascript' type='text/javascript'>")
strScript.Append("var wmpID=document.getElementById('VIDEO');")
strScript.Append("setTimeout('wmpID.controls.stop',5000);")
strScript.Append("</script>")

If the page uses windows media player to play the media, what's the harm in the viewers being limited to IE?

ntoo

_Aerospace_Eng_
04-17-2008, 05:36 PM
Because there are browsers out that do support the windows media player eg firefox, it just doesn't support the activex features of windows media player. I don't even think it supports the script that the user was using in their post. When developing a website for the internet its best to make sure your code is cross-browser yet you have the beginners who want a 'cool' looking site yet they have no idea how much of what they have done will only work in IE.

ntoo
04-17-2008, 07:24 PM
Yep absolutely. It's best to write the page for all browsers if you want it to be 'cool' for everyone. Imo that means no wmp.

On a side note... In my recent experience it wasn't beginners who wanted the page to only work in IE. I didn't argue (much) with the person who signed the cheque. Just did what they wanted :)

hmmm lse123...

WMP does more 'stuff' in IE.

QT adds QTtask.exe.

Flash player has the advantages of being available in +98&#37; of browsers and is nearly OS and browser independant. But it still does less 'stuff' in Linux (9 vs 7 the last time I looked).

classid and codebase??? "This attribute may be used to specify the location of an object's implementation via a URI" and "This attribute specifies the base path used to resolve relative URIs specified by the classid, data, and archive attributes". (w3.org)

What, exactly, are you saying/questioning?

You need to create your m3u playlist. There are examples of how to do so in this thread. Then make the src and filename values the location of the playlist. On a site note, flash would be a much better choice for playing audio files. I use the one found here: http://www.*******************/?item=JW_FLV_Media_Player

How tall your media player is, will determine how tall the visual window is.

Hey I read about 10 pages in to the site and tried out various coding but I couldn't seem to find the right combination for what I am looking for- in the image below you'll see what I am trying to do.

Basically I want to be able to link multiple song files to the embedded player that will be played on click (and no song auto-starting)- The look of the embedded player doesn't have to be what it is, though if there is a way to keep it dark and somewhat polished that would be great asthetically.

I hope someone can help me out on this, thanks!

WMP doesn't have much ability to be customized. There is the player here which is flash, which might suffice.

http://www.*******************/?item=JW_FLV_Media_Player

then there is the WMV player but requires SilverLight to be installed. Not many people have this yet.

I think the best you will get is displaying the playlist. I don't know if you can have it show up on the top or not. You will need an xml file that stores the locations of the tracks. You could put a prefix in the flash file that "hides" the actual path to the audio files so people can't really take them.

Epistemologist
