Hi guys,

I'm trying to but up my laptop and I'm getting a blue screen of death:::

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen restard your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0X0000024 (0X001901FD, 0X84DE57E0, 0XC0000032, 0X00000000)"

I'm running windows XP on a laptop and it won't even boot up in safemode!

Now the big problem I have is that the DVD drive on the laptop is damaged so I can not run the recovery CD. I have a USB DVD drive but ofcourse cause windows won't boot up I can't use that...

Any advice?

Some BIOS' allow support for USB drives and you can sometimes use the USB to boot. I know that my BIOS supports it but I don't know how many others do. Have a browse through your bios settings and see if there's an option for USB support.
Failing that I'd remove the DVD drive and see if Windows will boot, as it may be the fact that the drive is duff that's causing the error.
Other things I would ask would be:
1) Have you installed new ram recently?
2) Made any new upgrades or alterations to the laptop?
3) Did the computer crash before the error screen, or did it shutdown normally?

Sorry if I haven't been much help :o
