Choose the ASP route by all means.

ASP is better

In some ways, ASP and CGI are similar. You can use CGI to access databases and create dynamic, interactive, personalized pages. CGI programs run on the Web server rather than in the browser. But CGI uses an external program to do the work, which means that there is an additional layer on your Web server, which can cause more load and slow pages down.

gwendaal, the question is:

which should i choose?
If you're not answering the question directly, you don't need to post. No one's asking you for a lecture on ASP.net.

That was the basic question. The basic answer should be to choose any scripting language (i.e. PHP/ASP/Whatever) over the CGI approach.

Hosts that offer Classic ASP hosting are probably still more common than those that offer .NET. If this person is trying to make the transition from static HTML pages into dynamic website applications, any of the scripting languages would be an easier transition.

Plenty of other technologies/concepts to become familiar with rather than nit-picking on a particular language to serve as the glue to fit it all together....

only the 1st reply here is actually answering the question...

asp is outdated.... cgi is more oudated.. if you have a choise of asp or cgi, choose asp, its easier and more powerful

if you can find a host that lets you use asp.net use that, but that wasnt the question
