Okay - I have read through a lot of threads about this. In the near future I will be upgrading, specifically for a new video card. In consideration I realize that I will most likely need a new power supply. I currently have a Dell Dimension 4500, with standard MOBO, Powersupply, everything.

My main question is, if I purchase a whole new motherboard, do I still have to worry about the whole power supply issue? (Issue meaning the specially made power supplies that need converters to be standard ATX).

I am just confused into thinking that the Dell Motherboards are what is made specially and require the special power treatment - so if I plan on purchasing a whole new mother board, a new power supply and a new video card, that would pretty much be replacing everything but the processor, and in turn make it a whole new computer, MEANING I wouldn't need to worry about Dell's little power trip.....RIGHT?!

Hopefully someone can help!

If you are going to get a new MB you may as well get the processor too, you can generally find bundles for virtually the same price as buying one of them seperatly. But in answer to your question, yes. You have alleviated the power supply issue. Do make sure though you get a PSU that will power your display adapter properly.

Thank you for your response.

I was thinking of getting a 6600GT - AGP graphics card.

Now you say I can get a MOBO with a processor within
for nearly the same price? I can not seem to find anything
like that. If you have a spare second would you mind
showing me one? I am leaning towards the idea of pretty
much just building a new computer, as I have decided
on getting a new case with a 500W power supply, a new
MOBO and graphics card, and using my current HD, and
DVD/RW drive. So if you could direct me to a decent mobo
that you speak of, I would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks again.
