Hi everyone,

I want to have a connection to the internet via my phone socket in my house. Its just going to be a standard 56k connection not broadband or anything yet. But the problem is i want it to be wireless.

I have been reading a view theads here I this is what i have guessed I could do to work this.

Buy a wireless router which would have a stanard modem cable coming out of it, which will plug into the phone socket.
Then in my computer have a wireless pc card which would connect to the router.

Is that about right ? If you could just clarify that for me and mention anything else you think i should know that would be great !!` ;)

Thanks

that sounds about right...however a router that has built in wireless in it would be better. Also, to share your connection, broadband would be better - isn't it available in your area?

Hi weazel,

Do you mean have a wireless router and just a standard pc card in my computer ?

I do have access to broadband but cant afford it just yet ! :D

Well I think it will be possible to have a normal 56k modem card in your pc but then in another PCI slot have a wireless networking card - you can get them on eBay for around £20-25. The just use ICS or something on your dialup connection to share it.....

Alternativly, you can have a wireless router that does all this for you, but I think most of them require broadband to connect to the internet.

My current setup is: 512kb/s broadband connection, 8 port 10/100 switch, host pc running xp pro. I have internet connection sharing enabled on my broadband connection which i want to share. The I have it connected via RJ45/Cat5e Patch cable to the switch and so forth...that is a easy solution without the need of a router. However I don't have wireless and my laptop (which is the current host) has a wireless network card..so I might save my pocket money up for a wireless broadband router or something.

Jamie... :D
