Hello, I was just wondering if knoppix 3.7 has a firewall (and if so; is it automaticly turned on?) and, can knoppix be installed to the HDD and have the PC run from there?

Not sure, yes it can. If your going to install it, your better off with something like debian. Or if you want a nice live cd and want to test it first before installation helix (http://www.e-fense.com/helix/) is excellent.

There's Morphix (p://www.morphix.org/modules/news/) as well. Like Knoppix, it's a Debian derivative. Unlike Knoppix, it's made for being modular, allow installation to harddrive, and other things. I don't know how mature it is, though.

I tried it and I'm not sure if it was my settings or just how it was but the icons were huge and I believe it ran kde. **shudders** But if it was just my setting's then it is a nice distro, there's an app. to resize your harddrive which works well. I've tried about 20 distros if you can't tell already. CD-RW saved me lots of dough.

What's so bad about KDE?

It looks too much like windows for my taste. On a livecd it is death because it is so graphics heavy it takes forever for men's to open. I'm prefer something like icevm, which uses less resources.

Do you have any virtual machine software? If you can run it inside a VM then there's no risk of it affecting anything else, and you can run a firewall and other services on the host computer.
