When I try to open files within notepad and wordpad, the default file type shown is RTF. I don't want this. I want it to be 'all file types'. How can I change this plz.

Maybe I didn't explain correctly :(

If I am in windows explorer and I click on a .txt file they will open OK in wordpad.

What I want is for when I am in Wordpad and I do File>open, the dialogue box appears but only displays RTF files, of whihc I have none. I want this dialogue box to show 'All Files' I couldnt see how to achieve this in your last message.

There is a drop down box below where you would type the file name, In my version, the last option is all documents. Text files only is an option as well. Is that what you are looking to do?

Yes I have that drop down list to choose the file types. what I want to do is change the default one so that it automatically shows that it will display all file types not just RTF.

Oh, I see. Default being the keyword. I thought the question was a bit remedial. :p ;) That's a bit more complicated I would think. I don't know of a way, if there is one.

This is way more complicated than you probaly want to be bothered with. However, this should give you a good start:

A modification of the above should work in WordPad. For Notepad you'll need to find a program that will write macros that can be launched from NotePad.

You must really hate clicking the "Files of Type" down arrow...

It seems, not as much as I thought. :D

Thanks for the reply though. I'll get a better look at it over the break.
