for some reason, when i try to save an image from a website, it only gives me the option of saving it as untitled.bmp . in the past, if i right-clicked an image and saved it, it would save as whatever name and filetype that the original image was. anyone know why i'm only getting bitmaps now? :(

Does that happen with every image, or just some? It could be an IE cache thing (do you ever clear it?), or it may depend upon how the image is referenced in the source.
For a test, try visiting both of these links, in IE:
http://w3c.org/Icons/w3c_main
http://w3c.org/Icons/w3c_main.png
The one without a file extension specified gives me "untitled.bmp", while the other results in "w3c_main.png"...

From IE, click Tools > Internet Options, then click the buttons for Delete Files and Clear History...
You can also go to this directory and delete all folders in it...
%HOMEPATH%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
I seem to remember that clearing the cache after loading a page sometimes worked.
