Learn how to program first, then you can go onto games programming.

Most modern games are coded with C/C++, mixed with platform specific API's and some platform-independent API's like OpenGL. Like Kezzer said, learn C/C++ first, then move on to learning coding for the platforms you are interested in.

A great place to start learning game programming is GameDev (http://www.gamedev.net/) and for OGL game programming check out all the great tutorials at NeHe GameDev (http://nehe.gamedev.net/)

Comming from an HTML background, maybe a book like PHP Game Programming (http://www.gamedev.net/columns/books/bookdetails.asp?productid=335) could be more your style (and check out GameDev in general for game development material).
But, I agree with most of the people here that C++ is the most predominant language in professional game development.

I design games right now, and I use DirectX. You must know C++ first though. If you are willing to spend some money, there is an excellent book out which will teach you everything about DirectX game programming called:
Programming Role Playing Games with DirectX 2nd Edition, Jim Adams

This book is great and teaches many new aspects that I have never seen released, like Final Fantasy style battle engines.
