And I completed another layout! I'll make the content tomorrow, so please just rate the layout. Thanks!!

The design's ok, nothing special as I've seen far too many sites that look almost identical, with the banner with car lights streaked, content with dashed borders etc. Doesn't give me the 'wow' feeling, it just gave me a 'oh, another one like this'

OMG, the goggles do nothing!!!

You asked for a rating, I gave you what I thought of it. I never asked for mine to be reviewed, I know mine isn't that good, so whatever you're trying to prove isn't working. I'm a programmer, not designer

jero, i like your site design, but that was low class. :(

Thanks. It was just frustrating to see someone say that after a day work while I got over 10 very good ratings at another forum.

Just keep in mind, there's never gonna be everyone that likes your site. When you ask for a rating, you have to be prepared for bad ratings too, no one has the same tastes. I was reviewing your layout, so your response was a bit off and uneeded

Doesn't look bad, looks pretty good really. I do tend to agree with Nightfire, in that it isn't anything unique.

When I resize my IE6.0/Win2000 window, many of the content and right sidebar blocks stay tacked in place, overrunning the background; when refreshed, they pop back in place.
I don't know how you positioned them, but this looks rather iffy.
Also, the image finishing the overall page background doesn't line up: there's a gap between it and the main background. Probably IE specific, but should be fixed, really...

Is it supposed to look ok in the IE full window? I think Im not the first one with this problem

The design is simple and effective, but if you think you're going to get a "OMFG dude! That's the bomb" from this forum; you're probably out of luck.

Your use of absolute positioning for the sidebar items is unnessecary and causes the layout to chew itself if you increase the font size. (I'm not handicapped in any way, but I do often surf with the font size cranked up a notch).

Clean site -- but I don't think it's anything special. You have a white central layout with a (little rough) drop shadow element, a graphical header, right column links and info (central main links) -- no depth, clean vector look, light color tones. You've used a left header graphic, with an angled-line repeated background image similar to a lot of sites now. Your site is good, but it is not great.

This is what designers do, have you ever worked for a place or gone to school for it or worked with another designer? The whole goal is to give criticism that at sometimes is negative -- it helps you advance and excel your work. Nothing anyone does is a perfect design, and I can name industry leaders that I've seen produce some crap -- it's just how it is. If you can't take that type of criticism then your work is not ready for primetime, and you are not ready to be a designer.

That being said - you laying into someone for critiquing your design is a pretty big dick move on your part. You asked for someone's opinion, and then you spit on them for doing it? What did you want, everyone to praise it regardless of what they thought? Nightfire is one of the more advanced Web Developers on here, and has years of experience -- his opinion is pretty valuable regardless if you think his work is not up to what you consider good. Much less, it's more important to get someone other than a designer to critique your work -- that's who you get business from, right?

Yes, alright I know I was wrong, but Nightfire post was a bit too negative IMO also because he didn't give me any advise so I was a bit clueless on how I should improve it to make the site more unique.

Anyway.....

No, it's not supposed to look like that, but IE renders it like that, so I'll have to fix it, but I was planning to do that after all the pages are ready.

I like it, but I'm afraid IE5* doesn't.

*Note to evangelists - no, I don't have any choice about the browser I use at work.

Yeah, I know. I'll fix it when I finished all my other pages.

And is it really AAA? I'm not sure how to check myself, but I keep hearing AAA is like insanely picky...

There's also a weird amountv of whitespace above your content and sidebar. The only thing in that area is the "news" header. Looks weird.

Whoa, I didn't even notice that -- that site is not even fully AA compliant... you've got a ways to go to get that 100% AA -- and to get it AAA... well, as brothercake will point out, it's questionably impossible.

Whoa, I didn't even notice that -- that site is not even fully AA compliant
...and the only way it would even qualify for AA is if you redesigned it as a fluid width layout.

Guidline 3.4 -
"Use relative rather than absolute units in markup language attribute values and style sheet property values. [Priority 2]"

Nice looking site, but lose the false advertising.

Ignore those tests as far AA or AAA is concerned -- neither the Bobby nor Cynthia automated tests are worth squat once you're taking accessibility seriously. According to those tests my site is AAA as well, but I know for a fact that it doesn't meet every single guidline in the entire WCAG; far from it in fact ;)

Hmmm... I didn't know that you couldn't take those tests seriously. I'll remove the AAA & 508 thing.

Hey dude:) Your site doesn't look bad at all in my opinion. When you ask for an opinion on design you've gotta realize that its entirely subjective and that you can ask 100 people and get 100 differant answers. I like the feel and look of the site, and although it's something that isn't totally unique you've given it your own twists which is good. It's got a slightly familiar feeling, but to be honest... does it matter? Does the design need to be totally out of this world to be effective for it's purpose? Personally I dont think so, but like I've said there will be people disagreeing, which is fine and totally expectable in this case.

So yeah, don't get disheartened! perhaps work on things to make it a little more original if that's what the general responce of people is, but it really isnt bad at all.

I really like your main title image. Looks absolutely amazing. My only issue is your text links in your navigation look a little funny when they are centered like that. They look a bit lost in that huge rectangle you have them in. Its the only thing that doesn't quite seem to fit, IMO. A little playing around and I think you'll be all set. Awesome design man. Good stuff.
