Help needed

Hi,
I want to run a program depending on a boolean field in a table. Of course I can have the program always running which can check the field. But is there any other way I can do the same without the program being always running?

The database is PostGreSql and the program is written in C. This will run on a Linux machine

I'm not very familiar with that database, but if it supports something like triggers then you could write a trigger on update of that table that checks the field and starts or stops the program if necessary.

In fact, I am changing the field in a trigger and the program which I am calling is a heavy one to be called inside a trigger.
