The buttons on the "post message" screen

Hi guys,

We've all seen the vbcode buttons on the "post message" form. How do they work? I'm building a site that's going to be maintained by a non-coder, so that sort of functionality would be really useful.

They just append [CODE\] and [/CODE\] to the textarea (w/o the backslahes, I added them so the forum wouldn't parse the code tags)

When the form is submitted those tages are replaced by HTML equivalents...probably something like

<font size="2">code:</font>
<hr>
Body of message
<hr>
</blockquote>
