View Full Version : chromeless windows?

i wanted to ask if it is possible to make a chromeless(or modeless) window by itself and not a popup window?

meaning if i access index.htm through flash or other application, the window will appear chromeless/modeless?

i search through the internet and various websites and forums but all the tutorials requires a trigger (body onload or onclick) and then they can open up the chromeless/modeless window...

i am no expert in javascript, in fact i am totally clueless until these few days where i started to do research for my project.. therefore any help is appreciated!

In falsh, in the event handlers, you can create a pop-up window setting attributes scrolling=no, statusbar=no, menubar=no etc etc so that it appears to pop up in a stateless window.

You can trigger this from flash in a myriad of ways = off the timeline, on a user defined action, all sorts of ways :)

hope this helps

hey thx!
i didn't expect anyone to reply so fast

but let say i am opening the html file from a application that doesn't have any ways to change the attributes then how can i go around to change the attributes in the file inself?

i saw a script somewhere that can specifies the size of the window itself

<script language="javascript">

can the other attributes be changed in the same way?

is this the sort of thing you are looking for? It works in IE and NS6/mozilla

<title>test window</title>

<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" text="#000000">
<a href="javascript:window.moveTo(100,100)">move window to 100,100</a><br>
<a href="javascript:window.moveBy(5,0)">move window by 5 pixels right</a><br>
<a href="javascript:window.moveBy(0,5)">move window by 5 pixels down</a><br>
<a href="javascript:window.moveBy(-5,-5)">move window by 5 pixels left/up</a><br>
<a href="javascript:window.moveBy(5,5)">move window by 5 pixels right/down</a><br>
<a href="javascript:window.resizeTo(400,300)">resize window to 400,300(size includes toolbars,menus,etc)</a><br>
<a href="javascript:window.resizeBy(50,0)">resize window by 50 pixels right</a><br>
<a href="javascript:window.resizeBy(0,-50)">resize window by 50 pixels up</a><br>
<a href="javascript:window.resizeBy(-20,50)">resize window by 50 pixels down,20 pixels narrower</a><br>
<a href="javascript:window.resizeBy(10,10)">resize window by 50 pixels right,10 pixels down</a><br>

As soon as IE 6 SP1 is installed, chromeless windows will no longer be possible in the Internet zone by default. Too many abusive web sites out there have made such a change necessary.
