View Full Version : Making Layer go away, when no longer has mouse on it

ok, well what i have is a Layer that is shown when I go over a link. I tried making it so that on the link it had a OnMouseOut="doMenu(0)" but that didn't work. doMenu(0) hides the Layer. The reason that didn't work is because it didn't let me browse on the layer. I want it so that if the user's cursor goes OFF of the Layer, the layer goes away. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

ok, i've gone with no reply for about 2 1/2 hours... just wondering if anyone actually knows how to do this? Maybe it's just the time that i asked... but... I was really wanting to do this for more practice with JavaScript.

2 1/2 hours waiting isn't unacceptable for free help. Two days waiting isn't unacceptable either. If you were paying for help of course there'd be cause to complain. Surprisingly, a lot of help here is very quickly posted which does tend to raise expectations :) .

What you have is a classic menu system problem, the usual method of fixing this is to initiate a 1/2 second timeout on the mouseout event from the link and have it call the "hide" function. However, if during that half second the mouse moves over another menu item, the timeout is cancelled and the menu is hidden instantly. If the mouse moves over the layer that is the menu item, again the timeout is cancelled but in this case nothing else is done. Once the mouse moves off the layer it is hidden instantly.
