HI,
I have slight experience with JavaScript, but non at all with Java. I want to start learning Java, and would be grateful for some suggestions for a beginner’s book to start me off.

Thanks,
I have been looking at a few books. “Understanding Object-Oriented programming” and “Thinking in Java”. But they all state that some knowledge of programming is assumed. I want something for a complete beginner. Java for dummies, well, I didn’t want to go down the “dummies” road LOL. But if I must start as a dummy, that is where I must go.

Actually I read the dummies book, and it's not very good..
This is the book that is being used at my local university as an introductory programming class in Java:
http://duke.csc.villanova.edu/jss1/index3E.jsp
That should be a good one, I'd suspect..
Sadiq.
The dummies book isnt good at all, It's all about applets except one chapter at the end. Though I think there's to different java dummies books.
The Sams Teach... book is pretty good.
Im thinking of bying Head First Java, it seems like a good book.

My Java teacher passed out a cd that could be of great use to you. If you want, I can upload the files to my webspace and you can take a look.

I posted this link in another thread, but I think it'll point you in the right direction.
