I've got http://geoffers.uni.cc/echovprint/index.php to test times...

My testing shows that when your doing less than c. 10000 echos/prints echo is faster, but when your doing more print is faster...

intresting.

but i entered "10000000000000000000000000000" and echo was still faster

Echo: 16.33230615 seconds
Print: 16.36591411 seconds

to get a real accurate picture, you need to run this test several times at different periods on different servers.
you could set up a cron that runs the code every 15 minutes or so with different number of trials, and then write the number + executiontime and servername to a db or textfile + ask a few guys around here to run the same code on different servers. i'd be intrested in knowing the full results of these two commands + there are a few other alternatives i've wondered what the most performant alternative is (a regex or two string-functions, using arrays or if-then-else etc)

the test results seem erratic , can you post the source or have a view-source link ?

raf: I've limited the number you can do anyway, so it was only 100000 as to limit server resources used. As for testing on different servers, I'll do that later on... Gonna do some more testing on my webhost's server first. Maybe rewrite the code a bit, that sorta stuff...

firepages: Gonna change some stuff, so, later...

Not changed anything after all, but, I'm about to make it dump the results to a MySQL database...
