Welcome cookie

Hi.

I don't know for sure if what i'm about to explain is a cookie, but I wanted to have some sort of script where after the user logs in, I want the words "Welcome username" to appear. Does anyone have a script or anyway in how I could go about doing this? Thanks in advance.
