The new look of the Windows Media Player is generally slick, but the program icons are, well... I've attached a comparison: is it just me, or are the new ones (@right) too blue and glassy?
I bet the next version of Windows will be blindingly shiny...

Mmm... a bit tacky. :|
If they're going to rip off that style they should atleast put some depth in the effect.

Yes, tacky... I actually reversed the installation so I could go back and extract the old icons! :D

They never did have the design talent of Apple... they need new designers me thinks.

I think the 'XP look' is a nice, subtle design; not overwhelming like glossy eye candy, which works only in moderation...

I say they take it back to old school and use pixart with no more than 256 colours.

that would be nice, but he really fluffed the iMac G5 its flat! OMFG! i was quite disapointed.
if you're disapointed by that, take a look at the longhorn screenies, pretty poor stuff i found. windows XP is appauling too.

i still prefer WMP9 personally, it looks somewhat "better" than WMP10, although many people will not agree with me. I just like WMP9's navigational bar down the left rather than it being on the top.

I also prefer wm9. All these glossy stuff's just increasing response time.

it depends on your point of view - whether you want a "new" looking interface with is slower than the old version of WMP, or a older, but more professional looking and performing WMP9.
I tried the beta version of WMP10 before the ENU version came out, and i nearly choked when i saw the UI!!

Apparently MS are working on making their applications transcend dimensional barriers. I've heard that in the next version of Office your file passes through every point in spacetime almost simultaneously when you go "save as HTML".

Holo-Office. No starship is complete without it.

The Energy Blue (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=86268ffa-70b1-4814-bd00-2d380dc5a89d&displaylang=en) theme available for Tablet PC works just fine for all versions of XP, as long as you can bypass (http://geekswithblogs.net/jking/archive/2004/11/04/14345.aspx) MS installer counter-measures.
It's nice & watery (screenie (http://www.winsupersite.com/images/reviews/xpmce2005_02.jpg)); the media player blends in perfectly when minimized to the Taskbar...
I still prefer the satin sheen of Luna, though. ;)

Why is everything so difficult with Microsoft? Hacks needed just to use a theme.
