OK, here is the problem. I bought a hp pavilion zx5000 (notebook) for about 1000.00 dollars. The low graphics games that I have loaded on here like cs condition zero, worms 3d, and AVP 2, do not run well, or at all. I cant even play aliens vs predator on the lowest possible graphics settings, but wait listen to this, i love this part... now according to hp.com.

"Each HP Pavilion zx5000 series notebook is optimized to provide all the power of a desktop PC for entertainment and home/home office functionality". BS!!..

"Get cinematic-quality graphics
The zx5000 notebook PC features great contrast, sharp images, and true color courtesy of the ATI MOBILITY RADEON graphics with up to 128MB of dedicated memory."...BS!!

here are the requirements for cs condition zero (the game i played most):

pentium 3 500mhz
96mb ram 16mb video card
500mb hd space
---preferred---
pent 3 800mhz
128*mb ram 32mb video card

I am experiancing random freezes..game will be running fine..then BAM!!..just stops working and i have no choice but to restart my computer. HEH..talk about "optimized " for entertainment  . I feel like ripping someone's head off!.

but i do have one question

I went into run..i typed "msinfo32" or something like that, and it said that my total physical memory was 512.0 mb...thats good, because when i bought the computer, that was the stat that was on the label..but under the total memory, it said aviable memory, it was 275.65...now my question is, why the hell is my computer running at 237 mb slower than its susposed to?..pls dont tell me that i bought this computer with only 237mb??

----

well anyway, i dont care if anyone responds to this, i just want you to read, and learn for my experiance. my advice to u is not to get any hp product.

The thread title has been changed to something more appropriate. I understand your frustration, but the rules must still be followed. - Antoniohawk

Available memory means memory that is currently not being used by the Operating System or any open programs.

Now onto your problem, what model Radeon is in the computer and how much memory does it have?

My notebook has a 64MB Radeon 9000 and it runs Vice City, Quake 3, and Rise of Nations fine at decent settings.

Not all HP products are bad, they make pretty decent servers and laser printers.

And being upset is still no reason for improperly naming your thread, so please try not to do that in the future.

i have a mobility 64mb 9200 radeon

and sorry about the name of the thread :(

... so from the looks of it, i have the newer video card, but why are these random frezzes happening?

I do not like HP, I only have two computers (out of 7) that are not HP, and their the oldest and most stable computers we have.

Have you looked on HP's website for newer video drivers?

The 9200 is a decent card, so is the 9000; the model numbers for the mobility series have pretty much no corralation with the desktop model numbers for the radeon cards; fyi.

The 9000 and 9200 both even have pixel shading support on them, which is pretty nice for a notebook chipset. Since the card is decent, it most likely is a software problem that is the source of your problem. Also is there a lot of extra programs running the system tray (the area down by the clock)? If all your drivers are up to date and you still have problems, there are pretty much two things left. a) Use the restore CD and re-install Windows. b) Exchange the notebook for a new one; it is possible that the video card and/or some other component is faulty.
