Well, they are different types of connectors. They are the VGA, SVHS and DVI connectors, respectively.

- VGA is an analogue (sp?) transmission system dating back the old IBM PS/2 days. 15 pin connection. Made for connecting to traditional CRT screens. (Curiosa: The older EGA connector had just 9 pins.)
- SVHS (so-called S-Video or TV-out) is a single connector analogue replacement for the Audio/Video quad connectors and the old analogue coaxial connectors for TVs and video players.
- DVI is the Digital Visual Interface made for high speed connections with digital flat screens, and is the highest bandwidth connector of those mentioned.

corrected the pin count

SVHS is also known as S-Video... and liorean, you did spell analogue correctly (Just found out, that if you right click on a word in a Text Box/Field then you can check spelling :))

so, does that mean that you can have two monitors on you computer?

so you can drag stuff from one screen to the other, that what i mean...

Here in Scotland, maybe, there in Wales, probably :p

That depends on your graphics card and accompanying drivers. Typically, those with dual/triple display support have multiple VGA out ports, or a single LFH port which you can connect a cable to, which splits it into dual VGA.

Yes, with upto 2 monitors.

but does that mean it makes the two monitors act as one or two monitors displaying the same thing?

You can do both usually, depends on the drivers. I've used systems before that had 5 18" LCDs on it, now that is is a wide screen. :)

You sure on those pin counts? I'm pretty sure its not 25 pins, and that it is 15 pins.

does anyone know any good cards that have two DVI (the blue ones) sockets on it and that you can set it up with two mons as one.

Could someone point me to the right one, on ebuyer.co.uk pref, thanx...

Oh yeah, you're right about that. It was the large serial ports and the parallel ports that were 25 pins. The VGA ports are 15 pin, and the small serial port together and the EGA port were both 9 pin.

WIndows 98 and above automatically supports two monitors. You need either two graphic cards or a dual monitor graphic card. With the windows display settings you choose to have the monitors act as one large one or two independant ones. Presently I'm running two 18 inch compaq LCD monitors.

isn't it possible to connect one to the VGA and the other to the DVI (using adapters if need be)?

cragllo

Can you get adapters from DVI to VGA then? If so good!

Take a look at the bottom of this page, you'll see a Graphics card link. My point is you can just add another card to your system and be done with it...Any card will work, it just depends on how hard you're going to push the graphics.

Whackaxe: It sure is with adaptors.
