i recently experienced a problem (acer veriton 7500g, win2k sp 4) i'm not able to fix, though i've tried my best. in explorer (6) the default home page is not the one i choose. i can change it on the fly but starting up the system results in the unwanted url to be again added in the defult home page field. no virus is found, expecially of the js family (trendmicro pattern 2.168.00); no spyware present (ad-aware 6); even if i delete the registry voice of the starting home page, it is newly rebuilt with the unwanted value at the next startup.
where am i wrong but most of all what does really happen and how?
thanks a lot to all of you out there for your help.

That is usually caused by spyware it known as browser hijacking, even though you ran adaware that doesn't mean it got rid of all of it. Try running Spybot Search & Destroy (http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10289035.html?tag=pop) and see if it clears it up. If does not there are other methods to fix the problem.
