So I have one old Mac and it's a dual 450mhz G4 -- this model requires the Airport Card, not the Airport Extreme card. Since Apple discontinued the first card -- people are gouging their used cards online for $150-200... that sucks.

Now I know there's a Mac Compatible PCMCIA Wireless Cards but I'm unsure what the name of it would be or where I could find one online? Any ideas out there:)? Thanks!

edit: I heard that this would be a good substitute:
BUFFALO 54Mbps Wireless Desktop PCI Adapter, Model WLI-PCI-G5

Is this true? They said that this was Mac compatible, however the next generation model is not.

As an alternative, can't you get an external device to convert an ordinary 10/100BaseT wired to to a wireless link which you could use instead of one of these cards?

I guess I could, don't see why not... any recommendations? Just a basic ol' ethernet/Wi-Fi bridge? That can't be too expensive.

I'm running all wired right now so I don't have any relevant experience but surely somone else here has done something similar, and when you take it out of the computer then the fact that it's a Mac becomes a lot less relevant.

Yeah, I gave Linksys Wirelress-B bridge a try, and had some hell giving it a test -- when we tried to hook it up, I did everything right -- except the Linksys rep recommended Wireless-G Access Point, not the wireless G router (they told me to use a WAP54G, instead of WRT54G); this was just a test off my friends equipment, so it wouldn't allow multiple computers to hook up online. But I got other options now, thanks for the input Roy:) the bridge seems to be a viable alternative.
