That really sucks... Looks like you get to either try all 15 bagillion different letter/number combinations available in the universe to find your password.
Otherwise - you get to reload Windows 2000 :-(

You mean the unlimited letter & number combinations that (potentially) exist within this universe?

log into your system as "Adminsitrator" and leave the password box blank. Then create a new user account, copy your old settings to the new one and delete the old.
Why did you make your password so hard to remember in the first place? The computer isn't Fort Knox...

And it's as easy as that to log in to the administration account and just create another account?

Assuming you didn't set a password on the administrator account, yes.

see i use the admin account, and its the only one. So i would be scrwed... lol.
Great thing is, i have everything partitioned in a way, that i can reinstall windows, and lose nothing.

oracleguy,
Mex stated he only had one account, therefore he only has the administration account... which he has lost/forgotten the password for :O>

You would be referring to the account named Owner I assume? They are referring to the account labeled Administrator which is not shown by default. Boot up in safe mode and you should see an account name Administrator along with Owner(assuming you haven't renamed it) and any others you may have created.
There is a key sequence you can hit from the login screen to get there but I forget what it is but booting into safe mode will work.
But anyways the Administrator account doesn't have a password set by default unless you set one.

A very interesting security "floor". I shall remember that.

Guys, check the title where it says Windows 2000. You're talking in terms tha tell me you're thinking of Windows XP which has this friendlier face painted on it.
Still there's a chance he might not have set a password on the "Administrator" account so logging on as "Administrator" with a blank password might work. If it does he can change the password on the account he's been using from that Administrator account and won't have to delete it and add a new account.

just to clear this mess up slightly...
win 2000 should just have a dialogue box for login - no windows XP style welcome screen.
By default "Administrator" account has no password on XP. I'm assuming its the same on 2k.
To access administrator account login from XP welocme screen hit CTRL+ALT+DEL twice and it will bring up a dialogue box login... this option is sometimes disabled though unless run from safe mode.

One other interesting flaw with XP is that it says the data from your account if you have lost the password is "secure" and unable to be accessed by anyone else
Simply boot with a win2k recovery console and your in no problem through DOS prompt.
I have tried everything.... do u think i 'm stupid!!! well, i'm to some extend  anyway i got help from a fren and he got me back my password after deleting some files from winnt folder through the dos mode....
thanx guys......hope not to get into trouble again as usual :o being a self taught is what happens like this!!!!
