Exexecuting a windows command on a users computer

Is there any way to execute dos commands on a users computer? I am trying to print data from a web based application to a receipt printer with only 40 characters per line and don't want to output the standard printout from MSIE. I know this sounds like a bad idea in theory for most users, but in this case it might be a necessity.

Set objScriptExec = objShell.exec("notepad.exe")


Users will see a message saying something about ActiveX...
