FTP mode for .tgz

Which FTP mode should a .tgz be uploaded using, ASCII or binary?

ascii is usually for text stuff.
binary is usually for image stuff.

dunno what type of file that one is, perhaps try auto and see what your program decides?

How would I see? I need to know for a PHP script I'm writing...

If using fetch or transmit, I'd just leave it on Auto or Binary.
