View Full Version : CD formatting
Hi,
I am bouncing between a pC on windoze Me and one on Windows xp home. When I save things on a CD on the Me machine, it is readable in XP however it doesnt work the other way around.
Can anyone give me a solution for reading the CD made on XP in the Me box?
Bazz.

How are you burning the data on the XP machine?

it might be to do with file systems as XP uses NTFS.

HI yes I think its the different file systems that causes it. I am burning just like I save to the C: drive except I save to the e: drive (which is the CD).

No, all CDs use CDFS as the file system, so that's not the issue. It probably has to do with how your burning it on the XP system.
well thats interesting. I didnt know there was more than one way to do this. I shall look into it further and hopefully get both o/s's to read each others cd's.

I don't believe that the directCD type burnings work on earlier Operating Systems...
my Me uses diorect CD t do the recording to a CD-RW however, it can let you not use it if you want to read the disk in other multimedia drives.
I have looked at xp and can only see two ways to save to disk:
1. by copying and pasting files thru win explorer or,
2. using the file Save As function.
Either way, I cannot get Me to read it. Still its not the ned of the world. well perhaps it is for windows Me. ;)

Also, there are two different CD formats: ISO9660 and Microsoft Joilet. Make sure you're burning both the same way.
Maybe I'm a plonker.
I have been recording on CD-R in case this would become a problem. I didnt think that XP had direct CD software but it seems that it has. I have re recorded onto a CD-RW and XP reads what me has made. I shall save on XP now and when home, will see how Me reads it - if at all.
Will let you know.
